I love the red on the door and I like things to match, but I'm afraid all the shutters in that red might be too much.

A vote for keep the color of the shutters as is -- and the wonderful red on the front door too ...

But consider adding more red-colored accents around the doorway to add visual balance against the deep strong red -- like a red-painted bench on the left-hand side of the door and a large red pot of flowers on the right-hand side ....or perhaps add window boxes with trailing red flowers and greenery along the top of the railings ... or perhaps a large brightly-colored welcome mat ....

Are the shutters brown? What color is the siding? Is that a tan colored stone on the first level of the front facade? Looking at the distant shot, I think I might lighten them up.

I agree to carry the red color with urns or bench, etc. But I like the door having its own color. Great shade, too!

As for the shutters, given the style of the house, what I would really like (regardless of color) is to make them more of a feature.....larger, operational, clearly not attached to the wall, and with cool black hardware. I think that would look really nice!

Pretty house! I think the issue is not with the shutter color, but with the combination of the door color and the shutter color. I like the shutter color, but am not particularly enamored with the red door. I would consider making it a softer color, perhaps a lighter green-ish blue?

For those calling for authentic, larger shutters, wouldn't that be a several thousand dollar expense?

Yes, it would. But if the OP doesn't like the shutters, I think it bears stating that replacing them might be a really nice upgrade and really elevate the look of the home. And personally I think trhe colors are all very nice!

Now that I'm looking again, I think we looked at this exterior before. Didnt we? I wonder if i said the same thing. Not sure which side you refer to as front? Are the first two pictures the side?

I would take the shutters off, especially since not all windows have shutters. The style of house looks good without them.

Beautiful house. The shutter color looks fine to me, I agree with teacats to bring red into the scheme in other ways. You can start with the mailbox, then add large red urn to the corner in the first photo ( looking straight on in the photo...that corner.)

Do not paint the shutters red! It would give you too much of a red checker-board look or the old rural farm house look where every roof and piece of trim is painted red. I don't mean that in a bad way, because I love that look - sometimes - in the right setting.

Your house has an older, established country estate look with the beautiful grounds and surroundings. I like the darker look of the shutters, but on my monitor, I can't tell what color they are - are they black, brown, charcoal, the color of the roof??? If the red door works for you, I would add lots of red in your landscaping. I can pots of red geraniums on your steps and big colorful pots of flowers flanking the doors.

The shutters are green - we spent a long time picking colors we thought would work together and with the stone front of the house, but I thought the shutters would 'pop' more. Before we paint all the back shutters I want to make sure we're headed in the right direction. I agree completely that we need reds in pots and plants. Seems so obvious now you've said it. I'll keep my eyes open for accessories/ pots.

Replacing the shutters isn't in the budget right now sadly - but I do like the idea.

I like your current colors very much, especially having seen the shutter color more clearly in your samples. I'd carry on with the painting as planned.

I think the colors look nice. I am going to paint mine a real dark green (almost black) and my siding is a similar color to yours. I think that would make it POP. Beautiful Home!

What color green are you using Tracy?

As luck would have it the front row of Azaleas have red flowers as does the rhododendron. Not much use for the long run, but nice for spring while I look for red pots and accessories.

I like the color combination you have, it suits the house and your beautiful wooded setting. As long as you are painting, though, I would absolutely paint that horizontal brown trim at the top of your brick. It cuts your house weirdly, making the windows look as though there is barely enough room for them. If you can paint that trim the color of the upper siding, I think you would see a dramatic change in the proportions --- at least in how they appear--- of the top and bottom of the house. It's a lovely place!

I havent chosen an exact color yet. This is a picture i got off of here, when i was searching for a color to paint mine. They are curently light green and as well as the door. I want to paint the door red and go with the dark green in the photo. I love the look of this house. Hope that helps. Am going to ask the person whos photo this is if she has paint names. Good luck!

I love your shutter color, I think the red is too bright on your door though. Can you tone it down or choose a different door color? The doors on the house posted by tracyb973 look to be the perfect color for yours, too.
