How Did You Trim the Exterior of Your House (Windows/Porch/Etc.)
Comments (20)Sallen, I had to learn to post images so, hope this helps. The front elevation has 3 arches on the front porch, but they aren't installed yet so, it doesn't look quite as good as the final product. Other details, like the address stone are still missing. Note the brickwork matches the Fypon over the window on the right. We elected not to add shutters since we felt they hide the expensive brickwork and wasps tend to nest behind them. The rear porch has "receiver" boards against the wall so that a future screened-in porch can be added without disturbing the vinyl siding. My previous house had dark brown windows and trim and the aluminum cladding got chalky over time in direct sun and didn't look attractive. I later broke a window and tried to get the sash replaced and they had a 4-6 week lead time. I was told white is usually in stock and ready to ship because it is more common (15 years ago. Also, there are fewer color options for garage doors and the white windows and trim match the garage door....See MoreHow would you update this modest colonial ranch exterior
Comments (30)oh, melle..you know they now show me listings in your area, lol? probably because of these two you shared once..as an examples of what you like/dislike.. but since i didn't know your neighbourhood of preference, etc..In short I just looked at them the kitchen does look like a garage! I like the fire red, very bold of them; but layout is not easy. no countertop around the stove makes it really challenging lots of work, or so I envision bathrooms too..although it might be photos distort the places. Bathrooms are hard to shoot too they're smaller. possibilities will reveal themselves to you when there Iike the living, the backyard(possibilities!) , and the house overall is nice. I do think brick has nothing to do there. But I'd go there and feel it you know? It can be 15 things that you dislike and one you love, and that one will overweight other 15.. ah. don't mind their decor. just kinda wipe it when looking..in your mind. interesting bedroom with that step.....See MoreHow can I make the exterior look less dated? Comments (38)Another beautiful house that fell into the gray trap. Get rid of the gray and the house will be fine. Choose one of the colors out of the bigger color scheme of littlebug. The white is too white too. A tone of light beige will accommodate the walls to the brick. A truly dark red or dark green might be nice accent colors, but don't overdo it. Maybe just the door and the swing (which can stay in my opinion, but the pillows are too modern). Besides that: do people not build and buy such houses for the 'dated' look? It is supposed to look like from another era. So do not update, but preserve the look. The rest of the house is beautiful as it is. It doesn't have to be all Tudor style, per se. Have you seen the movie 'pride or prejudice'. That house also has such a wooden railing. In my opinion your door and windows look beautiful too. Some agents of styles tend to become to stringent. So: paint will do a marvelous job on an already lovely house....See MoreNeed some exterior help! How do I update this blah exterior?
Comments (12)The house has lovely bones. Definitely no shutters. I would suggest replacing the light fixtures. The security light over the garage is not adding any curb appeal and the light by the front door is blending in too much. You might consider a new front door if it's not adding much charm. I can't really see it from your picture so it's difficult to tell....See Morejuliaop
