Outdated exterior- how do I update this stone wall?
Comments (1)I don't think you can update stone... It is a bit of melting pot of styles, isn't it? The roof seems to go with the stone, but neither of those things go with the rest of the house. The star needs to go and you need a new light. Different paint would do a lot, but I would see about removing the stone and adding wood...I doubt you could match the brick, and I think wood would be a better choice anyway...something like the vertical panels on this house......See MoreHELP! What can I do to update exterior?
Comments (25)If you want to start out by planting in the bed, you'll need about 5 or 6 shrubs, if you choose shrubs that will be about 3-4 feet wide when they are fully grown. I'd take your pictures and measurements to a local nursery, which will be stocked with plants that do well in your area. Be prepared to answer questions about how many hours of sun that the bed gets, which may be different for each side of the bed. Consider staining the wood of the bed edges a dark brown. The focus should be on the plants, not on the edging material. It also looks nice to plant some low edging flowers right along the bed, that will hang over a bit. I like annual white sweet alyssum, which smells nice and also re-seeds itself every year. I would avoid pink and red flowers. I don't think they look good with your brick. Choose white, cream, yellow, blue, purple/mauve. I'd also replace the red cushions on your chairs with a different color. It always looks great when the decor items echo the colors of your flowers....See MoreHELP!! How do I update this exterior, what color??
Comments (7)I think your idea about dark grey is a good one. Something to pick up the tones in the stone. The house is great. It sits beautifully on the lot. I'd keep the door in the same color range. It seems to pick some of the warm tones in the stone....See MoreI need help with updating the exterior of our house, please.
Comments (5)can you post a picture of the roof color you're getter? pewter can have blue/gray tones, or brown tones Right now, in your picture, I see regular red brick paired w/a very cool tone siding color. almost looks like a lavender gray. which direction is the front of your house facing? North? East? let me show you a few before and afters , some of which have the replaced windows. see what you're drawn too this frist one did exactly what you want to do to your arch windows. Doesn't look bad. a slightly diff style home though. I like the addition in the gables, the painted brick, updated front door another one w/the rectangles. don't care for it here. I'd do a larger window (black one) and close up the rest of it this one is similar. they removed the arch and didn't replace it. covered it w/the shake. limewashed the brick, took down the arched entryway. added the shutters. looks a bit more french country a bit more modern w/the black windows, wood garage door. new windows (Rombio Classico on the brick) They kept the arch, but removed the grids. along w/the painted brick, wood accents, black windows, it really looks updated...See MoreDenita
