Help with ideas to update exterior of this raised ranch!
Comments (14)I think Hale Navy would look nice. It's a cute home. The shutters, however, need to go, or bring in some made of wood (think cedar). the wood w/the Hale color and the brick would look nice. Hale navy would look similar to this. if getting new windows, then do something like shown here^, or look at some of the pics below. Since you have the gray roof, you can do other combos too. I like the Urbane bronze on the siding, fired brick for the door, and a soft gray or white for the trim If Grover comes along, maybe she can photoshop a new color and new shutters for you here are some similar homes just to give you ideas when you're ready I love this dark gray w/the brick. but the black trim around the windows (without shutters!) and darker garage door, really make this stand out. (I could do w/o the orange door though) this is more of a teal, but gives you an idea of how it looks w/those white shutters. I don't particularly care for this tone. the white is way too stark against the siding tone w/that brick. This would look better w/painted brick, or diff trim color. diff gray tones on siding...See MoreHow to update a 60s Ranch Exterior
Comments (11)Where does each front door lead? To me, it looks like the door in the middle was the original front door and it would lead to living area. The door to the left looks like it leads to a utility area. Have you changed the interior uses? Agree with housegal that the landscaping needs to be trimmed way back, it is serving as a barrier now rather than an open landscape plan to bring people to the front of your home. The high contrast white trim on the doors against the red siding draws all the focus. Changing exterior doors needs to relate to the interior floorplan. Where do you want people to come inside? Most don't want to have the utilities areas front and center; however, the owners inadvertently lead people right to the utility areas by highlighting that entrance (such as garage doors and side doors). Right now, your utility doors are bright white against a dark red siding. You can change that by blending your garage door color with the siding or having it darker than the siding so it doesn't stand out to accentuate your garage door. Same with your utility door. Color works wonders. You can use an accent color for your intended front door. And landscaping that works with your home....See MoreColonial exterior update advice!
Comments (15)There’s something to be said for historic preservation — we don’t know what we have until it’s gone. I think your home is entirely charming and authentic. Wait and see on the painting. Replacement with current building product costs could be astronomical. My in-laws’ lived on a 1950s/60s cul-de-sac in northern Michigan. There was a darling one of these with far more detail built by a surgeon who lived across the street with a great view of the Lake. My husband said he loved the interior of the house — fireplace in the kitchen. His house was a designer French Provincial with a front windowless mansard cedar shake roof (that I never understood until we had to sell it and found the plans) — the mid-century was an interesting time for architecture....See MoreRanch exterior update design ideas
Comments (10)IMO more bungalow than ranch. I really dislike grids in windows . You are going transitional inside can I see what you think is that style. I would aslo like to understand your idea of modern but not contemporary. I think the house is quite traditional so making it not that will involve a lot of work. I will say that huge tree I would take out for sure . It overwhelms the house and does not look at all attractive . I really dislike painted brick in fact IMO painting brick instantly devalues your home .So post better pics of the house exterior and show the brick. Post those pics in comments her in this post do not start another post..Remove the shutters and do not replace them , a new garage door in a style you like could be the driver of the rest of the exterior design so maybe start there Landscaping will be ahuge factor in how this looks and I love a walkway from the street to the front door it gives the home a welcoming feel and also allows for some more interesting landscaping....See Moremelle_sacto is hot and dry in CA Zone 9/
