Need help picking countertops! White perimeter with sage island.
Hi all! I’m doing a huge remodel. Picked out cabinet colors and floors many months ago, they are all coming in next week and I still haven’t picked out my countertops! I’m going for an Arhaus kind of style I guess. Earthy/organic/transitional vibe? I’m not a design person so I don’t know what I’m doing 😆
I’m not big on quartz. I do like the uniformity of the color though. If I had to choose quartz I would go with Cambria Britannica Warm I guess. I was thinking Taj Mahal quartzite but it’s just too formal and elegant. Soapstone has me very intrigued, I know about the “maintenance” and am prepared for the patina. Money isn’t much of a limiting factor.

RFG island with soapstone perimeter countertops?
Comments (8)I don't know about Rainforest Green granite, but I am pairing Turquoise granite with Jucca Soapstone. Turquoise is a pretty uniform mixture of bluish green, black and white so it doesn't have the kind of movement that your Rainforest green has. If there is any way you can find a soapstone at the same place you got the granite, have them place them next to one another so you can get an idea of how they look together. You said you are thinking of a quiet soapstone, so I assume there won't be an issue with too much movement in the soapstone. Comments (12)kimbydewolf - I am considering the same things! I want soapstone on the perimeter and a navy island, so I was trying to figure out what would look best. I thought butcher block with a navy island looked gorgeous. I am also considering pietro de cardosa as an alternative to soapstone and thought about maybe having pietro as an island countertop, but worried that there was not enough contrast between the grey and the navy. I ordered white cabinets. I love color but don't want it all to be blue bc I worry about styles changing. I do think navy is very classic, though. Comments (8)your pics are super tiny and sideways. have no idea what the kitchen layout looks like because we can't see it. forget the backsplash tile for now. that comes last after everything is installed. (and that arabesque mosiac is a tad outdated) Ditto the hardware. wait. the style you picked is better suited to a more modern cabinet. color is fine but that super long handle is better suited for large drawers or pantry cabinets. what color white are you painting? you're getting dark floors but tile in the kitchen? why not continue w/the wood? I just painted all my cabs and put down hardwood. I love it. Right now, get one of your doors painted. Take that door with you (and your flooring piece) and go pick out a countertop you like. nothing else matters until you do that. Using the wood flooring will open up many more options than that porcelain tile you picked. post better pics. show us where the wood floor is w/the dining room. last yearMy new House Beautiful came today, and it's full of gorgeous homes in the style you're describing. I'd encourage you go pick up a copy. Here are pictures of kitchens in there with wood and green tones. Lots of marbles, light and dark, and quartzite. And maybe take look at Taj Mahal again but in a honed or leathered finish--I feel like those finishes are less formal than polished. We're just wrapping up a kitchen remodel and put in honed Taj. It looks great and feels so good when I pet it. :) Love that stone.

last yearThank you all for your input! What do you all think about this? It’s called Meridian Quartzite. Hard to find a soapstone I like. Plus it might be better to go lighter in color.

last yearI love the look of that Meridian Quartzite. If you find it goes well with your cabinet colors, you might consider using it for a short backsplash, like this photo belolw, because of the strong movement.

If you were to use the Quartzite you’re considering as a large backsplash as shown in this next gorgeous photo that stiley posted, it could be a bit overwhelming.

last yearI didn’t have my samples with me :/ made a trip to Costco and stopped at a stone supplier nearby haha. I honestly would love a white countertop, but I can’t find a quartzite that has a uniform, consistent white color without a busy pattern. There are a few “quartzite” I liked but they were so obviously marble. That leaves me with white quartz but I can’t get over the fake, plasticy marble imitation look. Here are a couple other quartzite that I think would look nice. Can’t find much info on Houzz about them, seems like this supplier makes up their own names. I probably wouldn’t use the Meridian as a backsplash though

last yearI think you should take your samples to those slabs. We just had the rest of our counters installed today!! We did our kitchen in phases so half was already done in March. Anyway, our quartzite might be the same as that Meridian. Ours is honed/leathered though. Part of what I loved about it is that it reminded me of a soapstone look, but it won’t get darker with oiling like soapstone. I’ll post some photos, but for whatever reason my phone really brings out the veining; it’s more subdued in person. Anyway, I think it might look pretty great with your cabinet colors!
