Kitchen reno - need help picking tile, backsplash & countertop
I am renovating my kitchen (old kitchen pic below). I am keeping the same L shape layout plus the island but getting the cabinets professionally painted white and changing the handles to bronze (see sample below). I am also changing the kitchen floor, backsplash and countertop. I picked out a few items but wanted to get some advice on the overall design. I can't change the layout or the cabinet color but I haven't installed the floor, backsplash or picked out a countertop yet. The dining room, kitchen and living room are all on the same floor. The dining room and living room have Mirage Escape Providence hard wood (pictured below). The kitchen will have radiant heat so we would like to use porcelain tiles for the kitchen. I picked out Great Lake Michigan tile from Floor and Decor which is a warm color and has some grey and brown but I am worried that the tile may look dirty or may not match the overall color or design. My husband picked out the arabesque dolomite backsplash. As for countertop, I was leaning towards ETUDE from home depot or something that is white and has a hint of brown or grey. Is the floor color OK? Is the overall look okay? Any suggestions?

Comments (42)Hi Amy-- Sorry for the bad link. I think I fixed it below. Sadly, my pics don't give you the best representation of the color. Probably the closest is in picture #2, and the Walker Zanger catalog is pretty close to true as well. The green is more muted than bottle green, like a lighly grayed sage. And I have really come to love the subtle iridescence (that originally was a compromise for my husband). In most light, you don't see it, only when a ray of direct sunlight hits... since you're familiar with Oceanside glasstile, you probably know what I mean. We used Laticrete grout in Lichen and then we found Lutron outlet covers that matched the tile color perfectly (installed after my pics were taken). Anyway, your cabinets, Icestone and design are gorgeous. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the choices you are mulling. Good luck! If you want a beautiful beach kitchen, I think that I would pick counters that looked like sand and somewhere, on the walls or the tile a beautiful calm steely blue. I really like Socalthreems color on her walls. Your cabinets are beautiful and very elegant. I think that to honor them, you can add color, but it must be understated. I like the colors in this picture. I think they would look great in your kitchen. Remember, you can keep the kitchen colors calm (like a calm ocean) and you can add other color with accessories. I would try to make your base colors more timeless. Again, only my opinion. I just pictured a perfect backsplash. I calm glazed steely blue tile with a raise white glaze border that mimics the foam on the waves or maybe.....gee I can't even make up my mind for me...and I'm doing it for you? Comments (41)anap2400 - We went with a sonoma tile. I think it is stellar penthouse crackle in a 3x9. Here are the pictures. My inclination would have been more contrast with the countertop/tile, but the decorator convinced me that I wanted contrast with the upper cabinets and the tile and I think she was right. last yearWe are redoing the floor in the dining room and living room. Here is an old pic of living room and dining room as well as kitchen. Kitchen is right next to dining room. We don’t want hardwood in the kitchen because hardwood does not hold up well in the kitchen.

Who says hardwood doesn't hold up well in the kitchen? lolHow come all the new kitchens on all these sites all have hardwood? I just did french oak flooring in my kitchen and it holds up like a champ. Find me a kitchen picture on this site, or other decor sites, and 9/10 they have wood floors. If it didn't hold up, they wouldn't use them.

honestly, the tiles you've picked, they look like bathroom tiles.
You may have to pay a bit more to get something decent looking. I like a 24x24 tile.
go over to Tilebar and look at their floor tiles, see if you like anything.
for example,,, these 1st 4 are 24x24 with small grout lines. I love these tiles
