Can someone please help me choose best size ceiling light?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could help me choose the best size ceiling light for my living room.

Dimensions of room are 13' x 15' and ceilings are a little over 8 feet (99 inches to be exact).

Here is the light I would like to get:

Schoolhouse semi flush

2 choices:

12 inches diameter / 12 inches total height

14 inches diameter / 13 inches total height

Can you show us a picture of the room? That is an unusual choice of fixture for a living room, but maybe if I saw it it would make sense.

Hi kendrewspa, thank you for you reply and being willing to help! I don't have a good photo to share at the moment. House is still under renovation and the living room is being used as a work station currently. I am curious as to why this light is an unusual choice for a living room. I need a flush or semi-flush due to the lower ceilings. Please help me understand...I am always learning so much from houzz! Thank you :)

I don't know if I can break it down in catagories like that, but I'll throw in my two cents. Last year I canned tomatoes, made sauce, and dried tomatoes. I really liked Sioux for canning and sauce because it is a more acidic tomato. I find sweeter tomatoes are much better for fresh eating. I found Red Grape to be great for drying. It was the perfect size and consistency. I didn't think it had much flavor eaten fresh, so it worked out well in the end. I haven't grown San Marzano.

What is the size of the current condenser? Will the lineset be replaced? What furnace do you have? You don't have a valid quote unless all model numbers of all the equipment are provided. I agree with V. You don't want the AC failing again in another 8 years.

I just went thought this same thing! And I too have low ceilings. I am deciding between the same vintage Picolo light you posted (a bit more industrial) and a drum shade pendant (a bit more traditional). I think the orbit is intended for over an island or penninsula - might be a bit large for over the sink - you'd have to check the measurements. Also, light direction might be an issue for you with the bell jar, which will direct the light upwards as ambiance lighting versus downward for over the sink task lighting. I just went thought all of this which is the only way I know this stuff. Oh the decisions! I feel like lighting can set the tone for the room and offer a bit of a personal style flair so I know what you mean about wanting to make sure you get something a bit different than the regular run of the mill lights. Many of the lighting stores, like lightinguniverse and others offer live chat help. You can give them your measurements, ceiling height, where you want to put it and they will make suggestions. I've found a few nice options there. Also, don't rule out semi-flush mounts - with low ceilings they still hand slightly below and come in styles that you are looking at light the bell jars and such. Hi Rubina, in the small size photo attached, it's hard to see much detail. If you could post a larger file, by itself, t would help. That said, from the little I can view, here are some thoughts: 1. It appears you have a lot of different materials and details on the house which chop it up and make it feel busy. You can create harmony by using one color on most or all of these surfaces; I would consider a cream or warm off-white (assuming you are keeping the brown roof currently in place). 2. Your landscaping is beautiful - ad you thought about pulling a color from one of those blooms, and using it either on the front door, or just as an accent - say in a pot by the door, a bench, or a welcome mat? Usually you would see that type of fixture used in a kitchen. Fixtures used in a living room are dressier, even if your style is casual. The one right for you depends on your style and what you're naturally drawn to. Some of them come in different colors so you have to consider which color is best with your decor.

This one would be pretty unobtrusive and is an update of the old so called "boob light."

Hopefully this gives you some ideas. You can go pretty large in a living room, but three bulbs should be enough. Ceiling fixtures are meant to give general illumination. You will probably want to also have a couple table or floor lamps in the room.
