Facebook Newbie--Already disabled

I started a facebook account for the sole purpose of joining a few Italian groups--language, cooking. citizenship, property, etc.. I made the acouunt using my first and last name--used my birthday. I don't want to catch up with anybody. I just want information from these groups I find interesting. I set my privacy features to just me. I put in my requests to join the groups. When I went to check on the status, my account had been disabled for not meeting community standard! What does this even mean?

Update: it says that this decision cannot be reversed????? What the heck did I do wrong?

I have no real idea, but it's possible a new account without friends or regular posts may have been flagged as a spam or scam account. Many groups will check out your homepage to see some activity before accepting your request to join. You have to share something even if it's just pictures of your pets or interests.

If it helps encourage you any, I have a disabling form of narcolepsy... it's made me 'unemployable' against my will, for about a decade now. If nothing else, I understand what THAT can be like. In my case, I force myself to stay outside during daylight hours (rain or shine, sleepy or awake)... hoping to reinforce some 'natural' sleep/wake pattern that...at least in my brain, simply does not exist. I'm convinced the compost/gardeing stuff is helping... but that may be wishful thinking on my part. It gives me something to do, that's not super time-sensitive. I do get really bad tendonitis on occasion too...sometimes, the only reason I wake up when it's 'really' morning, is because both my arms are numb and throbbing from overdoing it the day before. For that reason, I gave up with using a regular pitchfork... to me, that's more of a torture device. If my tendonitis really acts up... there's no substitute for my 'hand claw' tool. With my sleeping disorder, the worst that could happen with me...I could forget to take my meds, fall asleep outside, and inadvertently...compost myself. But, I realize that might be much different from the challenges you face, everyone has different challenges. You mentioned PT... If I were in your shoes, I would talk to your PT therapist about the possibility of using composting as a means of building your strength. A good PT will send you home with a bunch of (boring) excercices that you're supposed to work on at home. See if there might be a way to integrate some of the techniques you're supposed to work on anyway... with the processes involved with composting/gardening in general. If so, see about incorporating some of that into your PT plan? If you explain to your therapist(s) what you are trying to do, at the very least...they should be able to suggest some ways to engage in gardening/composting in a way that's 'safe as possible'... for someone with your disability. But there's also the possibility... gardening/composting could be used as a means to help overcome some of the limits you deal with now. Your doc/physical therapist would be among the first people I'd ask. OT also, if that's an option. Those professionals are supposed to be in your corner at all times, and by all means... put their expertise to work for you, as much as possible. Whatever you do, try not to get discouraged on the bad days. Everybody has those. I can lay down for a nap, and oops! Accidently slept 30 hours. It is what it is. Accept that some days are going to be better than others; focus on making progress when you can, and celebrate progress you do make. Before I was diagnosed with narcoloepsy, I was a workaholic and made good money. Now, I tell people my time is worth 3x more...because I sleep twice as often, and need to work twice as hard in order to get anything done...it would be really easy to get discouraged sometimes, but I don't allow myself the option. I'm actually making a new profile for people from high school & who I don't know in my every day life for that reason Jen. Someone I went to school with sent me a request; I was not going to accept because I wanted to do the new profile but didn't get to it. I opened FB mobile & saw a post by him where he used the "N*^^a" word- I posted that I don't like the word & that I know the kids use it meaning friend.. he told me off; said it was his page & could post what ever he wanted; then he unfriended & blocked me. I truly enjoyed reconnecting with some people on FB. However, once I decided to delete my account and began going through my list of 248 "friends", there were only a handful - perhaps 10 or 12 - that I really ever had any interaction with and cared to continue to keep up with. Roselvr's story above reminds me of something that happened when I used one of those copy/paste status updates that had something to do with the support of LGBT rights. I have friends and family who live alternative lifestyles and I feel strongly that they should be afforded the same rights as anyone else. One of my "friends", a high school classmate who is presently the chief of a local fire department, had not bothered to say so much as boo to me after friending me, but he did take the time to post a hateful "NO THANKS" after my update. Ummm, really? I deleted his sorry butt. ;-D I really made an effort to be nonjudgmental with what others were posting, but sometimes it was just TOO much to read the racist, homophobic, ridiculous comments that were being thrown about. For me, I'm much better off just e-mailing my 10 or 12 friends. As for the other 236 or so, well, it was interesting to see how their lives had shaped up throughout the years, but after that, there was just nothing there. OK, sorry to have highjacked your thread Oakley! I know a lot of people who use FB to keep in contact with close friends and family and for them, it works beautifully. So long as you're careful about who you friend - and I think that was my main problem - I just wasn't selective enough - I know it can be a meaningful thing. :-)

Alisande, just a heads up - Facebook has the same conditions that most websites do. Anything you post on their site gives them the right to use it. And they especially note that anything of yours that is shared by others gives them that same right even if you delete your account: "1 For content that is covered by intellectual property rights, like photos and videos (IP content), you specifically give us the following permission, subject to your privacy and application settings: you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook (IP License). This IP License ends when you delete your IP content or your account unless your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted it." You probably want to set up the account as a business or "group" page (with her as the creator/administrator) instead of an individual page. I'm not sure how to do it, but I susupect it's easy. You probably have different options when setting it up that way and it will give you what you need. Check out a school site or another business one to get some ideas.

Do you mean that Facebook has disabled your account? So you can't get in to Facebook at all? Or that the groups blocked you from the group?

Facebook has many glitches; it may be ok in a day or 2. If not contact Facebook.

Did you just use your first and last name? There are a lot of people with the same name. Try again with your full name and as wildchild said, put something on even if it is food or flowers.

Don't ask to join the groups for a few days.

Keep trying until you get a real person.

I manage a FB group. When people with new accounts, no friends, no posts of their own, no pictures, etc, send a request to join, the request is declined. Those look like spam or bot accounts. You'll find even if your account hadn't been disabled you wouldn't be allowed to join groups. Your request is legit but to administrators of groups it looks suspect. The groups you tried to join could have reported your account as spam. That could have caused your account to be disabled.

On FB marketplace there are people with no info that have recently joined fb, and if you list an item for sale they will message you that they will take it and that you should send a text message to them. They are scammers/data collectors, not interested in buying, and fb has been cracking down on them.

Anne, did you click the blue bar to see the community standards? I've been in "FB Jail" a couple of times (they are so clueless and suspicious) and I could see what standards I broke.

This is my cover photo.

My profile picture (little circle) is my cat.

I also have some things posted that are public, that I don't mind anyone seeing. I have everything else blocked, even friends.

ETA: I use marketplace to sell from time to time and I got a response on one that was totally blank. No cover photo. No profile photo. Nothing anywhere. I didn't report, maybe I should, but I just ignored it.

Just know that FB uses AI/algorithms to do a lot of the policing - and they often make mistakes.

I would just try again - and check the community standards for registration requirements.

I made a new account with my full name. I put a picture of my dog in the little circle and a picture of monastery in the big box. For privacy, I choose not to be visible on search engines and said that all my stuff will be available to friends. I don't have any friends though. I'll be sure to get one of those! Thanks for all the helpful advice.

Most people join Facebook with the intention of having Facebook "friends", posting content and sharing the posts of others, as well as joining groups and following pages they like. I don't know what you did "wrong", but I'm guessing the administrators of the groups you asked to join reported you as a spammer. I think Instagram might be a better fit for you. On Instagram you don't have to befriend anyone or share posts, and you can follow whoever interests you.

Go ahead and post some public posts related to what you like. Gardening, cooking, pets, etc. Nothing copied, just a photo of a meal, or flowers or, such.

If your account is marked private as other have mentioned above it is unlikely you will be accepted by many groups. Not certain if other groups can even see your account. I belong to at least two private groups that are only visible to members.

Suggestions

Easy way to find if your account is disabled is to attempt to make a comment on it. Like other sites there will be to the far right of your comment after you hit enter three little dots. If you click on them they will allow you to edit, delete, or change the audience from private to public. If you want others on a group to see your post's in this trial period you need to change your settings to public. Since one of my peony groups is multi-language I keep the translation on. Some things like translation you need to scroll down to see. Some sites like my Swedish one it does not work and I have to click on the word "translation" then "translate all comments". Your wording may be slightly different.

Set it to "friends only" then do not accept any friend requests until you feel comfortable.

Start slow by making comments and/or liking other peoples comments or posts.

Since you are looking for Italian cooking you may find YouTube more comfortable just for seeing what is being prepared and reading the comments. Although I joined years ago I never setup the feature where I can comment so if you want to comment that would be an additional step.

I know if you try to join too many groups in a day, they'll stop you because they think you're a bot. My account is very private, I rarely if ever post public posts. Only a couple people from this site are on my "friends" list on Facebook. I don't accept many friend requests anymore unless I know you personally. You also have to be SO careful when posting in groups that you do not say anything that can be misconstrued as violence. I made a joke about burning down a house because a spider was in it. I got put in jail. Then made a post saying, "I threatened to break my kids legs if they ran off on me. I never broke their legs"... yeah... FB jail again. FB has no sense of humour. ;) BUT: you will know if you broke their guidelines because it'll show up right away when they do that.
