Thanks, Sounds like fun! I remember her running around in storm filming & putting it on here & finally she had to quit as she was getting pounded, I was expecting things to start hitting her as it was coming down so hard! Loved her duck tales. Jan

unfortunately no Mike it could be enemies or those frienimies that once were friends and are no longer, often times they would do things like that simply because they can and they know it would be upsetting. Those people likely would not honor a request to please not do that. Or people that just get off on being A-holes they seem to be abundant. Also some people have been in groups or clubs etc and are no longer part of them, pictures of groups end up and not everyone in the group pic said it was ok to plaster their image every where. In fact I have been in pictures as a by stander and found my pic, had no idea it was there was never asked to be in a picture or to have it posted. Used to they had to ask permission to use your pictures and get signed release forms. Not to mention just being the polite thing to do. the thing about facebook is the opt out feature not opt in which makes if a bit different ballgame.

I'm not sure about that, but I have a question. Several times, towards the final moments of a game when I'm just a few points behind but with several tiles left and the opportunity to make a "good" word, I get notification that I've lost. I'm not shown what word my opponent has just formed, but the game is over. I don't believe she's used all of her tiles, so why is this happening?

Well ours is Belle, she was born in 1994 when Beauty and the Beast was popular she was named after Belle in the movie by the family who originally adopted her as a pup. She was a bit of a handful and they returned her 2 months later, how sweet of them. They tied her to our fence with a note and never answered our calls. Their loss. Seventeen years later, she's still with me ;)

If you don't want to deactivate your account but delete it, click on Help at the bottom of any page and type in Delete Account in the search box.

It will then provide you with a link to permanently delete your account.

(Someone else may know of a shortcut to the same link.)

That's why I never started/joined facebook. I don't need anymore hassles. All of those type places are like flypaper and they can cause you a pile of trouble.

Thank you all - It's deactivated. If that doesn't work, I'll delete.

I deactived my account. I just don't "get" Facebook!

I'm glad to read all this. Wondered if I was missing out on something. So far I've declined invitations to join.

me either I feel just like joann why do I want to know what everyone is doing every 5 seconds and I have heard more people getting in trouble over something that was said on there.

Did any of you see Dr. Phil yesterday? There was a woman who was brought there by her daughter, to get help because of her addiction to FB. She was ignoring her 2 children and spending almost all her time tending her crops. She thought they were really going to die if she didn't take care of them. Would be funny if it weren't so sad.

I am on FB because my niece invited me. She doesn't even use it any more. I read about others who have somehow showed up there.

I find it too difficult because there are no helps easily available.

I joined facebook,,,I don't get it either...I can just e mail ...I very seldom look at it...and I never did start that stupid farm thing.I can't believe how many adults play that game,it's like a teen thing or kid game...sheesh!!

I agree with most of you; I never did "get it" either! And the farm thing??? I want to know who these people are that have all this time to sit and play all day!! And I really don't give a rip with other people are doing ever two minutes! I like this place much better!! ;)

FB is the only way I can find out what DH's nieces and grandnieces are doing.
Seems like they are too busy to answer my e-mail so I check on FB about once a week.
I think one niece is addicted but she got her old job back and is taking classes so maybe she doesn't have time for the farm and whatever else.

Well, I like FB, go there a couple times a day. I like email, too, and old fashioned letters. If you don't check FB, what's the worry about having an open account? You'll just fade away from view in no time. You don't have to put any personal info at all on FB.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't get it. My DGD signed me up this summer when she was here, insisting I was going to love it. Well, what's to love? My niece writes, "I'm reading this afternoon". Well, I don't think so if she's on FB. Cousin showed himself getting a hair cut. Nephew writes he's hungry. What the heck?

Somehow it seems funny when I think about people running to the 'puter to tell the world they just ate breakfast.

I am so glad to hear other folks say , I don't get it. A friend was telling me how wonderful it was to stay in touch with friends. So glad I didn't get involved, I love our site here at the KT.

I really enjoy FB. I check a few times a day. All my nieces/nephews are on there that are all over the states. I get to see pics of their families. All our kids are on there too, so we don't have to send out 5 different emails, just post pics/comments there.

When our kids were growing up we had 15 kids in our little neighborhood that were all close (in a 10 year age span), all those kids are on FB so I get to see pics of their kids and keep in touch that way. Plus friends that I have met through the years that I can keep in touch with this way.

I do not play any of the farm/zoo/etc games. Once in a while I will play Farkle, but mostly I enjoy keeping up with friends and family and alot of KTers.

I do not sit and friend every Tom, Dick & Harry...Only those that I would like to communicate with anyway.

Again...just like everything else, it isn't for everyone, but I sure enjoy Facebook!

I can understand it is nice for some folks under some circumstances, but I too have declined all the invites. I enjoy the interaction of the folks I have come to know a bit on the forums, and like emailing, phoning and visiting with friends in real life.

There was a woman who was brought there by her daughter, to get help because of her addiction to FB. She was ignoring her 2 children and spending almost all her time tending her crops. She thought they were really going to die if she didn't take care of them.
I know of more than one person who has disappeared and can only be found via Facebook. Sadly, I am not a friend if that is the only way to interact in any way. I drop them a newsy email, and then never hear anything back. Guess they don't really have time to be my friend, even keeping in touch via emails.

I'm on it b/c my granddaughters that are both in college post pictures often of their activities and I love seeing them. They are current and up to date, so I know what those girls are doing. I use it very little except for that.

I have found so many people I went to elementary-high school with and even my 6th grade teacher. While I wouldn't interact with them regularly, even if we were in the same state, it is nice to share memories we had growing up. Since I am in grad school, most of my cohort are all friends, we see each other but out lives are too crazy to keep straight who we told what to! FB allows us to share on time and then everyone can keep up as they have time. Some of us don't do well with the phone and such interruptions when we are studying. Family is easier to keep track of also. And coolest thing, on Christmas Day, I found a cousin I have not seen in over 15 years. His parents divorced when he was probably 3-4 and by the time he was in high school, he had other things to do than visit his dad's side of the family. So good to at least know he is safe!

Forgot to add, I fought being on it but finally joined December 2008.

It has been a life/sanity saver while I have been sick. Told the family not to call but to check FB. Otherwise, I would have family members calling every hour to see how I was feeling and to remind me to get plenty of rest. People, how can I rest when you keep calling!!!!! LOL I love my family but sometimes.....

I didn't "get" facebook at first either. But now, I check it several times a day. I dont, however, chat on it. I grew out of chatting online a long time ago. And I don't play any of the games...and have them on ignore or whatever it's called. I keep in contact with several people and have found quite a few people I went to school with and have gotten in contact with a few relatives that I hadn't heard from in forever. Everything on mine is private...and only my friends and family can see what's on it.

I love Facebook. My family is scattered all over the country, and I can keep up with what they're doing and see pictures of them and their kids. It's great for keeping in touch...it's like we're all together in one room.

We don't all email each other or call, so FB is fantastic for us.

I don't understand FB and only have a bogus account so I can search. So, tell me, these people that have a few hundred friends. Do they know them all or do they just ask to be friends with any Tom, Dick, or Harry who asks? Who knows that many people?

I am trying to DELETE my account.....BUT ......
I can't click on the HELP because the bar with applications and other stuff is on top of it. I can't figure out how to get rid of that.

Can anyone help me with this?

FB is whatever you want it to be. You don't have to do the games and stuff and you can choose to get the feeds or not.
It is the one place I allow myself to be "found" by those who know me. Just got "friended" by a niece I haven't seen in over 15 years. That's really cool.

You can choose what you see and what you allow to be seen.

Having a bogus account is contributing to the negativity of Facebook. Like being a peeping Tom. Using a nickname that is well known to friends and family is one thing but to have a bogus account is disrespectful to the Facebook community and will get you banned if/when you are caught. Of course the anonymity hurts the bogus account holder more than anyone else. Real friends can't find you. The searching one does as an anonymous is just living vicariously through a community one claims ,not to understand, have little interest in etc. Pretty hypocritical and rather sad really.
Privacy settings are there for the purpose.

As for having lots of "friends" they are often "friends" just like on here. They are people who have interests in common, share information on activities and business etc. They are "contacts". Some later become real friends. some not. Some get deleted.

I like it because I can keep up with what the grandkids and some other relatives are doing, otherwise I never hear from them and I enjoy seeing their pictures.

I only 'friend' those I know and actually want as a friend, most are relatives. Found two women that I went to nursing school with and enjoyed catching up with their lives.

I'm not an active "talker" on facebook. But I like it to find people I haven't seen for awhile...

I found a friend I worked with right out of high school. I've only seen her once for a few seconds in a hospital corridor, since I got married...That was about 20 years ago. Found out she had been living here in the same town I live in until she and her husband retired and went south.

Also found another friend we worked with. Now am looking for two others.

I don't understand the need for facebook so I've never signed up. I declined an invitation awhile back and got a reminder from facebook the other day. The reminder had several friends and relatives avatars. I found it kind of skeevy that facebook was able to link them back to me even though I've never signed up and have never been a member.

The only thing I don't like about Facebook is that when you do get on some people will start chatting and you feel like they've been waiting for you, like my brother. Actually, he's the only one so far that has made me feel like I was being stalked. LOL!

Kathleen, you can easily disable chat and it will stay off until you enable it. Just go to the bottom corner of your Facebook page next to the Notifications and click on Chat. When the window pops up go to Options and click on Go Offline. Your Chat will now say Chat (Offline).

I don't play any of the games. I joined to keep tabs on my 14 yr. old DD and I do quite frequently. I find it's nice to keep in virtual touch with high school friends and with family and friends around the world. I have noticed, though, that since joing FB, I tend to get more computer viruses yet I don't open any links.

I,too, enjoy FB as a way to stay connected to my friends/family, and get to see pics of my grandchildren that I would normally not get to see, or get to see often enough! I get to see the funny things they do, and share the things that happen in life. I did the MySpace thing at my daughter's urging, and it was she who coaxed me into FB.
I had broken a bone and was cut off from work and world for 7 wks. I really got addicted to the farm games, and got many others to play. After my farm was fixed to my liking, I stopped cold turkey.(going back to work and working up to 70 hrs a week helped that...lol) It was good clean fun that "kept me out of the poolhall" as one of my older gentleman patients said...
My sister asked me last weekend something about one of her daughters, did I know anything, "thought you might have seen something on FB." I called her yesterday and asked how she was feeling, since I read on FB that she had her gallbladder out! I told her it was the newsiest place!
I have nieces and nephews off at college, and sometimes just knowing that they are doing fine, or feeling down or lonesome, at least lets them know someone is there for them!

Thanks Jodi, I'm so out of touch with most things like this, never even crossed my mind I could disable it.

Orie, I agree, that is how I found out my dd broke up with her "boyfriend". I also found out that she was more upset about it than she let on. Also, that is how I found out she had a boyfriend in the first place. I saw "in a relationship" on her profile and I thought, "HUH?" lol, went and talked to her about it and she told me all about him. I knew she had a crush on him but didn't know they were official.

Adellabedella, if someone you know is looking for you on FB, they have the option of having FB search for you from their email and IM contact lists, so I would think that's how you were contacted and invited.

For instance, when I first signed up with FB, I asked it to search for my friends using my email address book, and then I sent friend invitations to them that way.

I like it! It's a nice way to keep up with both old and new friends and you don't have to spend a great deal of time there if you don't want to. It's what you make it. To each his/her own!
