White vinegar vs Finish Jet-Dry rinse aid?
Comments (37)Out of curiosity I decided to look up the MSDS for Finish rinse aid. I thought I remembered it to be pretty benign especially since such little amounts are used in the final rinse water. Just a few cc's in a couple gallons of water that is used to break the surface tension of the water. MSDS Component analysis - Oral LD50 Ingredient(s) Alcohols, C12-15, ethoxylated propoxylated LD50 1200 mg/kg rat Citric acid 5040 mg/kg mouse; 3000 mg/kg rat Sodium cumenesulfonate 7000 mg/kg rat Effects of acute exposure Eye - None expected during normal conditions of use. Comments (9)Being that the diluted vinegar is very weak, I think the intent is to wait until the final rinse to dispense it so that it can effectively remove the scant detergent in the final rinse water. Otherwise, because the first rinse still has a lot of detergent dissolved in it, the diluted vinegar gets spent before it can act on the detergent still on the fabric. (The max line on all the compartments is equal to 1/2 cup of liquid.) In the Samsung, when the "Extra Rinse" option is selected, the machine does not dispense what is in the softener section until the 3rd and last rinse. What happens is that the during the 1st and 2nd rinses, only the bleach dispenser section gets flooded with water (all other compartments left dry). And then finally at the start of the 3rd rinse, the machine dispenses what's in the softener compartment, followed by a flooding of all the other compartments (I think to do a final purging/cleaning of laundry products left in the other compartments)....See MoreDispensing Distilled White Vinegar
Comments (3)If anyone figures out where to buy a 3 oz one (and just one of them) let me know. I was able to find 1/4 oz thru 2 oz ones (singularly) at http://gourmetpour.com/order_page.htm (see link below). However, they don't have the 3 ounce and they seem to be kind of pricey since you can buy 12 of them on the website mentioned above for around $20 or so. This website (below) has them at $8.50 each Here is a link that might be useful: http://gourmetpour.com/order_page.htm...See MoreLiquid Softener & Vinegar?
Comments (7)If anyoine uses either vinegar or ammonia in your laundry, there really is not a need for a softener. However, do be careful and never use both vinegar and ammonia together and absolutely NEVER combine either with bleach. Some people have complained of a smell with the ammonia. First use the NON sudsing ammonia ONLY ! Either dilute it with an equal part of water (example 1/2 a cup to a 1/2 a cup) or better yet, place the ammonia in the washing machine while it is filling up along with your detergent BEFORE adding any clothes. Once you have a few inches of water in the washer, then you can place your clothes in the machine. Your clothes should come out brighter, smelling nicer and feeling softer. This is just me, but for many years even as a Nurse and having to wear White Uniforms at the time, the only thing I used in my machine on my clothes were Tide, Vinegar OR ammonia and that is it ! I no longer have to wear the Nurse Whites and now I exclusively use TIDE and vinegar only to launder my clothes. A SIDE TIP: If you work as a Nurse or handle blood products and happen to spill some on your clothing, try soaking the stain in club soda or seltzer water. ALSO, if you have ballpoint pen marks on shirts or other clothing and especially now that school is back after summer vacation, spray hairspray on the spot. Has worked everytime like a charm for me in getting the ink stain out....See Moredadoes
