Design around this, pink, part 2....
Comments (59)Okay...I'm just going to do a 'girly' kitchen with pink :) Jack and Michelle just bought this cute cottage, with quite the front garden. Michelle is planning to put lots of pink roses in the garden and would like to put some in the kitchen, too. From Pink kitchen The kitchen is not in bad shape...and they really can't afford a major remodel right now. Jack wants some kind of wood floors, but otherwise only asks that she not paint the cabinets pink. So, Michelle finds an inspiration kitchen (on Gardenweb) that she loves and knows it will look great with the wood floors. It's a bit fancy, but they don't have kids...and they have a separate family room, so Michelle wants this to be her 'girl space' for tea with friends. From Pink kitchen She finds a similar chandelier and decides to go with the antique brass hardware, like her inspiration picture. From Pink kitchen If they install the flooring themselves and paint the cabinets, the backsplash and marble should be affordable! So, Michelle's thinking of using roses on the backsplash. But not just any roses...finally she finds something she likes. From Pink kitchen They have a dining table from their previous house that they want to use in the kitchen and Michelle finds some chairs at an estate sale. They even came with the pillows. From Pink kitchen From Pink kitchen So, now for some more roses...maybe some wallpaper, not too different than those cute little pillows. From Pink kitchen And some pink crystal knobs for the cabinets...on sale, no less! From Pink kitchen Now, with her painted hutch, white table cloth and bouquet of roses...she's finally done :) From Pink kitchen...See MoreHelp Me Design Around This....
Comments (1)Since you have two silver finishes (chrome and pewter), I would probably do raw brass hardware. For fridge pulls, especially, I would get something that attached from the back rather than screwed in from the front That way you will be relying on metal to metal contact and the full thickness of the wood rather than wood screws putting pressure on the face of the cabinet...See MorePlease design around this...stained doors, window, floor...
Comments (5)Threeapples- Hi! It sounds like a lovely kitchen and I'm sure people will be happy to 'design around' your elements. Just so there's no confusion, some of the GW members created the DAT threads and spend a lot of time deciding what topic to pick, to illustrate ideas for different kitchens. Many people visiting the forum don't realize this, so no harm no foul :) I know you've been working on your home, over on the Building forum and it looks like it's going to be beautiful! Hopefully, you'll get some great ideas and responses, for your kitchen. Stained windows and brass would be great elements to work with...I'm looking forward to seeing your progress!...See Morelwo: from the go design around this...
Comments (4)Angie, thanks for pitching in and finding those. It's been about a year since I did that design, and I couldn't tell you where I found them now. Christine, as I've aged I've become fonder of the Brutalist look in many things. I think it works for people as well as the GO. If a room has an "aw my god" piece in it to notice (or as my other half would say, "an obvious steaming turd"), the geezer taking up space in the rocking chair starts to look positively youthful and attractive. :)...See MoreSabrina Alfin Interiors
