Range Hood Vent Help- Given 3 opinions from pros
Comments (3)I noticed I needed to clarify this. Running thru the attached garage and out its end exterior wall would be the longest run Running to the soffitt on the back of the house would be shorter Running up to roof would be shortest....See Moreneed a 60" vent hood for range AND blower for a commercial hood.
Comments (8)Proline are rock bottom priced Chinese made hoods that use 430 SS instead of the much more common and more expensive 304 SS. 430 SS uses less nickel therefore is a little darker and more prone to rust. You need a 60-66" hood with at least 1200 cfm. You will not find another company that sells cheaper. Maybe a new Chinese company selling something equivalent. In 2010-11 about 10 people on GW purchased Proline Hoods. Five were satisfied including one that was very satisfied and posted on every thread that mentioned Proline extolling the virtues of the hood. About three were unsatisfied with the lights. Either they were too dim or would not turn off. One got a free circuit board but got the run around about getting reimbursed for labor. Two had major problems. Not getting the right parts and another(if I remember correctly) too many holes drilled into the hood and duct cover. One complained to the better business bureau and the BBB closed the case with an unsatisfied rating saying the company never answered. This person would also post in any thread that mentioned Proline. The other just grew frustrated and posted so again and again. Eventually, people on here stopped buying Proline. But if you want something of better quality and reputation with the correct size and cfm you will have to spend significantly more. Do you want two remote blowers or just one for the outdoor hood? Fantech budget but kinda noisy remote blower. Probably not a good idea if you have neighbors close to your property line. Abbaka considered the best remote blowers. You have to maker sure blower is compatible with hood. If it is single speed I don't think they make those anymore. 3 Speed or Variable speed....See MoreVent-A-Hood Ductless ARS range hood Update
Comments (198)With conventional hood systems, the expectation is that the larger particles within the entire grease particle spectrum are collected by the baffles, and the smaller particles are ejected into the outside air, with only modest condensation or impact collection by the duct. To deal with the entire particle spectrum with a filter pack is a challenge, and probably unaffordable in cost for most residential users. If the Amazon rating is based on comparison to outside venting, the result above might be reasonable. As a commercial example, the Wells WVU-31CT filter system is described below: "Filtration Completely self-contained filtration process reduces emissions below that allowed in NFPA 96 and ANSI UL710B using the EPA 202 test method and includes stainless steel grease baffle filter with grease cup, fiberglass pre-filters, high-efficiency (Particulate Air) filter/ carbon-charcoal filter pack. All filters are easily removable with out tools. Air flow sensors continually monitor air flow optimizing performance and grease removal while an interlock system will not allow cooking appliances to function if filters are missing, clogged or in the event of a fire." About $18k. Electric surfaces only....See MorePro style range hood selection
Comments (46)That is commonly called a register, not a diffuser, although some diffusion surely takes place. The device commonly called a diffuser has larger, fewer blades, and will be less turbulent on the output, more directional, and less restrictive. Examples start here: https://www.hartandcooley.com/grilles-registers-and-diffusers-grd/commercial-grds/ceiling-diffusers One specific type is this: https://www.hartandcooley.com/products/are/aluminum-louvered-ceiling-diffuser-flat-margin And within this collection, type 1L without damper would be my off-the-cuff suggestion as a relevant example. https://www.hartandcooley.com/assets/files/59/sd-9303.pdf Choosing will require more effort than I have put into it!!! Generally, you can adjust the blades to flow near perpendicular to the face or variously off axis to parallel with the wall you mount it on. You may also find more applicable/aesthetic units. I can't tell if there is something about the physical shape that would preclude your using it on your wall interfacing with your ducts. I have a 3 x 3 foot unit of this type on a hallway ceiling aimed to flow down the hallway toward the kitchen....See Morekaseki
