need suggestions for a focal point. please.
Comments (4)I don't think a focal point is what is needed here. There's a sidewalk and a large beautiful stone path going off from it, and then directly across from that path there is this little teeny path to nowhere, to a blank wall. Why do you need a path there? Who is going to "wander" down that path? I understand you want easy access to the hose and the AC unit, but a path is not the way to go here. A path should lead you on a journey...to the welcoming door of the house, through a lovely garden, and so forth. Eliminate that odd little path and make a more concealed access from the side (behind a larger plant) to the faucet and AC unit with gravel or mulch. Put one more of those fern like things (that are on either side of the little path) in the center so that one is not "invited" to walk the path to nowhere. Just my two cents. (Meanwhile the Talking Heads song "We're on the Road to Nowhere" keeps going through my head)...See Morefocal point ideas
Comments (14)I agree with the need for a screen. I keep looking at the tarp. You could try to find some sort of fencing like bamboo (doesn't seem to go with the area), willow "wattle" I think it might be called (would go well here), small section of unfinished pickets? My compost area is behind a small picket fence (someone else's trash was my treasure). I looked and looked at your picture and finally found the pot. So, yes, it is hard to see it. I think the idea of a few mirror or gazing balls on the ground, or a couple colorful pots, maybe all the same color or color family. They could be placed closer to the path and would draw the eye away from the tarp area. I had my son's (small) wedding at my house and yard in June 2010. It was very stressful because I am a perfectionist for those type of things, but it turned out great. I bought new cushions for the porch furniture, new outdoor rugs (all inexpensive at Lowe's) and a few key pots and hanging baskets. It was all very lovely. I'm sure your event will be great too....See MoreDoes Your Garden Have a Focal Point or Defining Feature?
Comments (34)My ex didn't want me to get this birdbath and it is one of the things that was the final straw in our marriage. Actually the other thing was three round bales of hay. That was nine years ago. When I had this birdbath on the other side of my creek before I moved the garden over here, I had Ranuculas around it which looked really pretty. When I get my new bare root roses through the mail, the roses get put in the bird bath prior to planting. All the large rainfall last Summer killed my perianals around the birdbath. I will have to get some more My girls put this statue in the birdbath some years ago, the lady is nursing a baby and I thought it was appropiate. Too bad about her neck or head and I haven't repaired it yet....See MoreSuggestions for an all ELECTRIC range as a focal point..
Comments (10)Fori- Thanks for the link. I like the idea of putting an induction hob in a subtle location. I actually considered using a smooth electric or induction in a "Hutch style" setup with a wall oven in the pantry or underneath the cooktop with pocket doors like those made by yestertec. DH really would prefer more of a focal point. Igloo- I'll be interested to hear how you like your Legacy. I know it for a future rental, but if I remember correctly you'll be living there temporarily. Which handles did you order? I like both options, DH doesn't like the spiral. We'll probably end up with the Legacy, but I'm am still so drawn to the cast iron of the 6-4 and the traditional AGA. Here is a link that might be useful: Yestertec...See Morecindylouhoog
