Any Tea roses with a 'rose' fragrance?
Comments (16)Carol, Thank you for letting me know of your comment on my results page, I missed it and some other replies. If houzz notified me, I missed seeing the email. J E Murphy is a relatively new Tea the I got from Rose petal Nursery. I wish I could tell you more about it. Maybe ask Cydney about it. He is a pleasure to deal with. I actually made a order today. I had been really depressed and down this year. Haven't even been reading the forum much. We had a really rainy wet year. I don't understand why still. But I lost a bunch of Rose's. I did my potting soil like always, so I don't know. It had me really down and discouraged along with everything health wise going on. I was feeling better and planting a few that had survived. JE Murphy Pink was one, and it had a pretty pink bloom on it, and the scent was divine, it was a light in the darkness so to speak. Next year my husband is installing drip irrigation, I think it's called, on all of my Rose's in ground. I can't wait. Even though rain messed with my pots, it's not enough in between in those hot dry summer days. I know the rain messed up, and killed my Rose's in pots, but what I still don't understand is how. They didn't hold water. It flowed straight through them. Drainage looked excellent. From the outside. Still confused on that one. I guess it didn't dry out enough in between? Idk.....See MoreDo you make doubles of your favorite rose rooting, or buy another?
Comments (18)Desert, I take cuttings in late winter, early spring. When I am pruning my roses for the spring, I will take a piece of the cane that I cut and have it be about 6 inches long or so. Make sure they do have at least two or three or more eyes on the canes. I shove the cane into the ground about two inches or I sometimes use potting soil. That is it. I sit back and watch them grow. Make sure they stay moist. Now, not everything will grow as Seil states, but I have had very good luck with Candice, Lavender Crystal and with Brother Cadfael. I figure since all of my roses are own root, that I have a fighting chance since they grew from/on their own roots already. I know that my Wedding Cake is extremely difficult to grow on its own root....See MoreWhich roses have the strongest "old rose" fragrance?
Comments (48)This is from an [old post,[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/nearly-lost-this-one-most-fragrant-votes-2005-06-dsvw-vd~1719150?n=7) which I found interesting and helpful. Houzz sometimes deletes old posts, so I will copy it here. Since this was from 2007, I wonder if this opinion pole were repeated today, how it would be different. Posted by jpw_chi 5b Chicago, IL (My Page) on Mon, Nov 12, 07 at 13:47 Due to hard drive crashes, I nearly lost this list. Thanks to a thoughtful, wise Gardenweb member who clipped the results, I would have lost voting results to my informal survey of fragrant roses altogether. Counts were based on frequency of being mentioned in response to the question "What is the most incredibly fragrant rose that takes your breath away?" I think she is one of my all time favorites . . . " BUT SHE IS AN OGR! ARS's official definition of "Old Garden Roses" is that ANY rose OF A CLASS OF ROSES that existed prior to 1867 is considered to be an "Old Garden Rose." SO, if I were to introduce a Tea Rose, say next month ... it would be an "Old Garden Rose." And people HAVE created modern-born "Old Roses". At the same time, Hybrid Musks and Polyanthas (as examples) are NOT "Old Garden Roses" because they did not exist as a class prior to 1867. Why 1867? Because that was the date of the introduction of the first Hybrid Tea Rose -- The first "Modern Rose"....See MoreChris Martins Zone6a Chicago
