My umpteenth living room post: please help with a coffee table
Comments (33)Back again - you all were so helpful that I wanted to update this post (and of course ask a follow-up question!) I wound up disobeying the GW mandate after my husband balked at the pair of tables. He is anti-anything that seems rustic, and his OCD-ness seemed to kick in with respect to the chore of aligning multiples. I spent the past few weeks freakishly obsessed over this, and wound up back at the giant furniture place in the way hinterlands of Northern Virginia and came back with something totally different. I found a floor model of a marble/composite table by Bernhardt; it's a matte beige color, which wasn't my original intent. But it satisfied the main criteria of being reasonably Lego-proof and Windex-resistant, and it will enable a lot of kid activity without overwhelming the room. Plus it kind of classes the place up, or at least doesn't make it feel any more ramshackle than it already is. Since the table legs are brushed gold, I'm going to replace the mirrors on either side of the window. Here's my new question! I also need to rethink the overhead light I'd picked which was to replace an old ceiling fan. I have a chandelier fetish, but am trying to hold myself back due to 8ft ceilings. This one below seems like a safe choice and it would actually light the room well, but is it too colonial looking? Or this one (which is only slightly goldish... maybe that's better?) This one totally calls to me (19" high; could I ceiling mount it?)...See MoreLiving room (Help with Coffee table)
Comments (11)Couple of suggestions...when you say piece by piece - and I assume decisions are made that way as well - I would sit back and think about the room as a whole and what pieces would lend itself to that look and your needs - more seating, side table, floor lamps, art, etc. Looking at lots of pictures will help you define a look as well as trigger ideas on individual pieces; ie: coffee table - see ideas below - you should measure out what would fit best. First thing I would do though is try your couch on the opposite wall and center it. Add a large piece of art or series of large prints above to create a needed focal wall. The low unit (and I assume tv to come) would work fine on the other wall. The rug is not the right size - either just under the coffee table or the size in second picture. When you can, drapery on the sliding door would warm up the space and I would bring in a rustic element to tie in with the barnwood - leather chair, tables, artwork that had some brown in it, your rug choice, etc. I have attached a link to Pinterest Scandinavian living rooms with grey couches and you may get some inspiration on accessorizing as well as coffee tables. You could go round, rectangle - stacking tables may work better or a square. https://www.pinterest.com/search/pins/?q=scandinavian%20living%20room%20with%20grey%20couch&rs=typed&term_meta[]=scandinavian%20living%20room%20with%20grey%20couch%7Ctyped...See Moreneed ideas for new coffee table and end tables for living room!!
Comments (5)What you've done thus far looks lovely, the dining room is yummy. Most of the living room is done well but I have a little issue with the balance of the room. In the photo ,looking straight on to the sofa, I see that it's not centered on the wall and the chevron pattern chair seems crowded. Is it possible to center the couch and move your heirloom between the two windows to another spot. Take the chevron chair and put it at an angle up near the window more to the right of the window. Then take your heirloom piece and place it to the left of the sofa. Just a suggestion....See MoreNeed living room advice - Chairs, coffee table
Comments (67)Julie, Here are the pics of dining room visible from the living room. Need to add drapes here as well. The art can change (if required, but prefer to make it work) and chandelier HAS to change, but would like to keep everything else. I know the rug is small, but it's comfortable and doesn't bother me (I trained my mind because I have no choice lol), so don't want to change it. Atleast for now. Would the Kravet fabric I posted above work in the dining room? Thank you....See MoreHolly M
