If so, move the piano between the two windows and put the collage frame over the piano. Move the sofa in front of the window wall and the large blue chair perpendicular to it with the back facing the edge of the wood floor. Then put the ottoman in front of the sofa and chair as a coffee table. Put the entertainment cabinet on the large wall with the wood chair in the corner near the window and the leather chair about where is currently is. I would also move some of the accessories from the top of the entertainment cabinet to the top of the piano - maybe the red vase and a basket. I think the basket table is too light feeling for the other furniture. If it needs to stay in the room, I would move it to the far side of the sofa so it is not as visible from the room's entry point but it will still be functional as an end table. I would also suggest breaking up the pillows. Keep three on the sofa and put one on each chair. If you can't move the tv, I would still recommend the same arrangement but swap the recommended tv and piano positions. For future furniture purchases, I like the idea of a sofa and two chairs also. It will give you a lot of flexibility to have different arrangements. I really like your windows and blinds. I would suggest putting blinds on the quad window too to cut down on glare as you watch tv and to give the windows a more cohesive look....See MorePlease help put together my family room!
Comments (14)For the rug, I would do two of the same rug in different sizes/shapes. Would stick with grey, teal and orange theme to warm it up. Something like This rug . You could also do a custom bench cushion to go over the cabinet for window seating here . It can be customized any way you want - fabric, color, pattern, style. Just make sure those cabinets can support the weight of full grown adult. For a table- would probably stick with rectangular. If you want something "different", round may work depending on the type. Would do a weathered grey wood table to keep in line with the rest of the colors like This If you were going to do a solid color rug, then I would probably use a tufted ottoman as a coffee table in a brick orange to add some texture and color. But I love the way grey and orange look together....See MorePlease help pull this modern look together, with this art
Comments (13)Casals- yes, we have to hang the pastel on the only free wall we haves and yes the piano is there too.It is indeed the short leg of the sectional. . That particular wall csnt fit the long part of the sectional. . i know it isn’t ideal to have the piano on the wall with any part of the sectional and it’s all jammed together but I inherited the piano from my mother and it fills me with nostalgia. Also, I do love to play piano. We did try to find 2 couches but nothing looked or felt right. Most had backs that were too high. Or they didn’t fit our budget. And my spouse wanted a sectional anyway ...so there was that. Compromise. I can’t find another space for the sectional. in our house.. So I think we’ll just have to work with that reality, as imperfect as it may be. . There is a counter with contemporary revolving bar stools in front of the remaining wall - which i didn’t show. It’s basically there for entertaining. There are built- in shelves on the wall. There is a piece of wall space on the east wall ( the one with the longest part of the sectional) where we could hang the small portrait ( of my mother), The walls are stained but the wood would absorb another stain as it is essentially raw wood with a bit of color . It doesn’t have a finish that would reject a stain. I tested a small , not noticeable , portion with a light stain and it was quickly absorbed. . So should we stain the walls a different color? They do lean more towards beige although there are hints of grey that I couldn’t capture with my camera. The other colors in my photo are accurate....See MorePlease help us pull together living room
Comments (22)What a stunning old house with fantabuous detailing! I thought you must be haunted by a spirit, and the reason the long floor was in the living room was so you could catch it! If not, please remove that mirror. In its place, please put a bar cart, and mover the side table to the other side of the chair. Find a coffee table for in front of the sofa. I would not spend a lot for it. I wouldn't spend a lot for the bar table either. After all, this is a rental, you don't know how long you will be here, where you will end up next and what will suit your next place. Scour garage sales, charity stores, etc. What I would do is find some throw pillows or throw pillow covers (or make them yourself) that marry the lighter color of your sofa and the darker color of your chair. I like the look of a fireplace screen too, but I wouldn't invest the money in it for a rental, either. If you can pick one up for a song second hand, then go for it, otherwise, forget it. Then if you want, you can spray-paint it with heat resistant spray paint....See Moreptreckel
