Help with pulling together a living room with a baby grand
Comments (17)Thanks all for the comments so far. Let me see if I can respond: teacats - the chairs I bought first because I liked them and they were on sale! This was before we had even started looking at pianos (I originally thought we were just going to have an upright). I can't really return them so I think I have to work with them for now or maybe move them to another room in the future, if possible. I was disappointed in the rug color - it was a lot darker than the picture online. I still might be able to return it but I'm contemplating that one. It's a nice rug. I may be able to use it in the dining room instead. I was unsure on having the backs of the chairs to the door - you think that would work? The room is about 18' long x 13' wide. Your suggested artwork is very nice as well. I'll keep it in mind! pipdog - I thought about the corner by the window as well but that means the lid opens to the wall and its in the light and by the furnace register. The lamps aren't staying - they are just temporary for now! aktillery - thank you for that post. There are some other options to consider there. I need to figure out how to make a floor plan to scale so I can see if the room is big enough to have the piano more toward the center. I'm afraid for the piano by the window. My parents' black piano faded over time because it was right by a huge picture window (and still is) cyn427 - I'm having a hard time visualizing what you mean. The corner to the left as you walk in? Seems like the piano would stick out in front of the door but maybe I'll have to try it. It's only 5' long (it's a baby baby!)...See MoreHelp me pull my room together...please
Comments (3)I am probably the last person to get this right for you. But here goes. I do think a celery green on the walls would be wonderful because I am partial to greens. The rug couch and cubes are all good together. I would pull the couch up over the edge of the rug to ground the couch or pull the rug back to the couch which ever fits the space best. The front of the couch needs to be on the rug. It looks like too much space between the couch and cubes. Might just be an illusion so if they really are that far away to be used as ottomans move them closer to the couch. The red pillow is not the right red for your room. Maybe go more on a burgundy or green. What glares at me is the dark hole of the TV set up. Can you set the TV on a small wood dresser or something other then what it is on? Or hang it on the wall? Spread out the components some and make a better living space for the VCR or DVD , game, or whatever it is. And move the stereo. If that is impossible can you cover the base of the stand with something cloth? Now crazy me. If you do not need the long curtains to cover the windows for privacy and warmth. I might move the whole rod off to one side and let curtains just hang on one side. .In your dinning room area do it one on left side of window one on right. But then I am a virgo and need to see balance. Some one else will have a better idea. I can not help you at all with art. I have very little and what I have certainly will not be your style. This is coming from a thrift store shopper is why. So now I am done.Great space to work with.Love the rug and cubes. I am sure some one else will have much better ideas. Loving those darling little tables in the corners too. Chris...See MorePlease help us pull together the decor of our master bedroom
Comments (36)Ontario mom, I am posting pictures of our "blue room" that isn't actually painted blue. I think that the blue of Scandinavian Christmas plates looks best on a color other than blue. The white Holly Kay linked to, or something similar, would be beautiful for pine furniture and floors. This is a sort of montage of photos of the room. I have about 100 plates and cannot display them all, but they were the starting point for the room. It was already painted this gold color. I used other blue and white pieces i already owned (urns, vases, Foo dogs, etc) in this room as well. We purchase the oil of children on the beach and I framed it myself in the plein air style. Sorry for the horrible iPhone photos....this shows the plates above the headboard. We used DS2's childhood furniture (armoire and dark pine single size sleigh bed ). We recently put rustic white oak floors in the room and I added this blue and taupe-y gray rug: Closer of plates above headboard (these are Norwegian) and other blue and white stuff on shelf in bed alcove: In the corner is a display thing bought at Ballard Back Room in Atlanta (their discount place). They called it a bookcase but it is perfect for displaying plates in a corner! This is an interesting side table my mother gave me for my birthday about seven years ago. It is a mosaic top made up of broken pieces of blue and white china. On it is a lamp that was in my childhood room...a little too "good" for the rest of the room, but I wanted to use what I had. The bedding is a discontinued Ralph Lauren pattern I found on ebay. They incorporate shades of navy, royal and light blue, which is a perfect foil for the plates. I use the white matellasse cover on the bed with the comforter folded up at the foot. Hope these photos help you envision a blue and white room :-)...See MoreHelp with pulling living room together
