Hey guys!! I need advice please.

Exterior is currently extra white

A Knotty Adler front door to be installed

Open to all ideas.

House has two bodies and trim

Which trim color and placement please

A few questions to help with suggestions —

Is there an HOA, or can you do anything you want?

What colors are some nearby houses?

Any specific brand of paint required or desired?

What are some colors you like? What is your decor style?

Hi!

HOA is pretty flexible

The house to the left of me is a light blue with white trim. Other houses have SW french gray, SW french roast, SW grays harbor.

No. Probably will use SW paint

I do like the white, but it needs a touch of something for sure!

The stone is warm with gray mortar.

My style…rustic with clean lines

I would try to convince her to 'uninsist'. That seems to blend into its site in its earthy color. A plus to my eye - And I am also in the PNW. She needs landscaping. My own ground here on the coast is too wet for spading and preparing new beds in January. And please note that the house behind and to the left are white. This house also white would be redundant.

The first thought that came to mind when you said "more contemporary" was black or deep green. Here are some inspirational photos. You didn't ask, but I would also remove the old schrubs and put in new landscaping. It would really move the home's look to the next level. Paint or replaced the front porch handrails your trim color and if you could replace them, select straight line ironwork. Add a new stainless mailbox and house numbers and change out your lighting. All these details will help you achieve the look you are aiming for. However, you can't totally change an "English bungalow" to a modern building without more structural changes, which I wouldn't do at this stage.

Here is a greenish gray with white trim. Your tall arborvitae need to be removed from in front of your windows, which I guessed at the shape in this image. Your home could benefit from some colorful landscaping in the front.

Remember that once it’s painted or stained, there’s no going back. Your house is beautiful and unique. As for making it “more modern,” it’s plenty modern as is! Was it designed by an architect? If I were you, I’d find out the history of the house just in case it was designed by someone notable in your area. If so, you would devalue it by making such a significant alteration to the architect’s design and vision. I am always of the opinion that if something is real, quality wood (as opposed to something like replaceable veneered plywood), then it’s worth letting the wood be wood. Refinishing it, rather than painting it, would bring out the beauty of the cedar. There are good products available nowadays for refinishing exterior wood. If the white is cement (and not stucco) then you would be painting a surface that is rarely seen in houses (white cement – which adds to the modern character of the house). The white contrasting with the wood emphasizes the angular design. Painting the cement gray will just make it plain old gray cement. I could go on and on, but I think you get my point. You have a unique house, with an interesting and attractive design – if you refinish the wood in its natural state, it will be even more stunning.

I would leave everything white and then have a vibrant, attention grabbing front door! Place a colorful chair on your porch, or pots filled with colorful flowers. My point is…small items that, when you get tired of a “color,” you can change out or vary with the season (wherever you are.). And then…landscaping adds color, too. Plants, flowers, perrenials, flowering shrubs. Your home can be the beautiful, crisp white background for a colorful home. Good luck!

The white is nice but you could go with a color from the stone or mortar for the trim. I also think a garage door with windows across the top would add interest. Maybe some type of pergola over the garage to help fill in the space.

I think you have interesting detail that is lost being white. I would paint it a light tan from the stone. You could do the gable siding in a even lighter tan.

The railing really hides the stone on the porch. It is possible to switch it out for a more open style?

houssaon’s mockup is a good example of what I was thinking. It also helps with all the white space above the garage. Still think windows for the garage door would be nice.
