I would put headboard on wall on right… so you can see it by only peeking in door…and chest on wall to the right of door…

This also allows heat source to be unobstructed..leaving room for a rug on the floor in front of window …creating a warm play space with natural light…

If the chest is paintable it would be cute in pink or her favorite color….also consider a bulletin board with colorful frame to post her art work..cute photos, schoolwork et.

IMO the dresser takes up a lot of space that would IMO be better used for books and toys The venting is really not a big issue I have hot water heat baseboard vents all through my house never stopped me from putting furniture in front of them so a book case there with feet no issue low enogh to be below the window I would rearrange the closet interior to allow all the stuff from the dresser to go in the closet then pick a spot for the bed maybe along the right wall with the headboard on the wall by the doorway. I often put single beds against the wall in kids rooms so they have more room for play . Then get some fun bedding in colors she likes add some removeable decals on the walls and paint a nice plae green wall color that is neutral enogh to stay while she has a different fave color every year for a while . The decals and bedding easy to change no painting required. Smething like this for the bed placement would allow her to sit on the bed and still have a place for her head and mabe a friend too

Have you thought of a trundle bed? They are so great for sleepovers. I concur with Patricia. Paint the walls a neutral color and decorate with pillows, bedding, and decals in whatever excites her at the moment. Would she ever need room for a desk? Perhaps a tall bookcase with a desk that can fold out if and when she wants it.

I have a 5 year old - we did the same thing awhile ago as well. We have the IKEA Hemnes dresser, which is even longer! It's tough to make work but I hate tall furniture and it stores so much, so we kept it.

Anyway, I would put the dresser on the 7'-9" wall and the bed with a headboard on the 9'-7" wall. Other option would be bed on the 7'-9" wall and dresser on the 9'-7" wall, in an L shape, if you want the floor open. A bookshelf with cubbies would be a good compact toy storage solution.

IKEA has great inexpensive bedding if you think she'll change her mind often. Let her pick though...it's her room so she should be allowed to style it :)

So what I am gathering is to either put bed longways along either the entry wall or the right wall.

Do you think a reading chair would fit too?  Even though she's young, I want to make it a space she can grow into as well and not have to change much.

It's unfortunate that it's small, but would be nice to have a bed, desk, and a dresser.

The bed could have a headboard on the side wall and extend into the middle of the room was well. This is how we have our daughter's room set up. We only have a dresser, bed and night stand in her room. And a bin of toys but I plan on changing that.

This probably depends on the kid, but I don't see my kid doing homework in her room, and from what I hear of others, most kids are doing homework in the main living spaces in the house, or on their beds. So lack of a desk or reading chair is not really a huge deal IMO. I was a voracious reader as a kid - I did most of my reading on my bed or on the couch.

If you really want a desk you could probably fit one on the wall with the closet.

ETA I don't think you need to get rid of the dresser. A smaller one won't really leave enough room for much else anyway.

Have you considered a bunk bed with no bunk on the bottom so you can utilize that extra square footage beneath? We don't have a playroom so my kids have all their toys in their room. It's a lifesaver for space.

Thank you all.  This is really exciting.  Bunk bed looks nice and woukd love that, but just wanted something that can stay longer so that's why I was thinking a regular twin bed.

I will say most kids do not use desks they have a laptop and mostly sit on their bed to work on it . We have had International students for the last 10 yrs all ages and we are rquired to give them a desk the desk just collects a bunch of stuff but never has it been used as a desk,

I have a 4 & 6 yo and rearranged their bedrooms in the last year or so.

Admittedly my rooms are bigger but I still manage to have a twin bed, chest, bookcase, doll house, chair & small table in their rooms. One's chair is even a chair & half size that pulls out to twin bed.

These are sold out now, but I got them each one to use as a nightstand/desk combo.

Are they sitting at the tables doing homework? No, they are 4 & 6. They won't be doing that & using a laptop in their rooms for several more years.

But they do sit at them to do crafts, color, legos, etc. and they give a place for books to easily go at bedtime. And yes even stuff that doesn't belong, just like my own nightstand haha.

Looking at your floor plan, I would put your dresser on one of the shorter walls with a door and head of bed in far corner (upper right) & against the long wall. You could add a similar type of table under the window with a chair in the upper left corner. Or you can have a table/desk at the foot of the bed and chair in the bottom left corner.

Take a look at Marie Kondo's method of folding clothing. It saved me several drawers of space for adult clothes, so I'm sure it could be useful for reducing the need for drawers for a child. The inexpensive cloth folding containers from the dollar store can be used to sort undies, tees, PJ's, socks, etc. In only 7 years she will be a teen. Go ahead and get a queen size bed that will take her through high school. You might use the "east" wall to build it in or fill that wall with soft drapes (matching a roman shade on the window above the baseboard heat. Add a rolling bed desk at some point. Either of these looks could easily transition from little girl to teen with the appropriate accessories.

I was looking for something similar to what we had growing up. There were 6 kids, 3 girls, 3 boys and 3 bedrooms, a girl's room and a boy's room and my parents bedroom. Obviously our bedrooms weren't 10x10, but we needed 3 of everything and the solution was that the wall with our beds had shelving across the entire room and low cabinets beside each bed, one side wall was 3 closets and the other side wall was 3 banks of drawers and a vanity with 3 drawers. Everything was built in so we couldn't move our furniture around, but it was extremely efficient use of space and provided ample storage for all our stuff.

The only thing I found was by closet mates and is based on their murphy bed, but it could be a standard bed and have a couple of shelves over the bed. Ours were set up with a reading light over each bed and every night we would go to bed, turn on our reading light, grab a book that was on the shelf next to the bed and read. I miss that light. Worked better than having lamps on side tables.

Hope it provides you with some ideas. This idea wouldn't utilize the dresser, but provides a ton of different types of storage based on your daughter's needs and looks like it is roughly based on a 10x10 space.
