Saw that reported last week. It looks like most of the contaminated products have been in Europe, with only a couple here in N. America.

Of course, and I have a 6 pack of those Kinder Eggs waiting for Madi and Maci, they love the things. (sigh) Not the recalled items, but same company, so it makes me think twice about giving them to them.

So why doesn't someone figure out how to put a small explosive inside the candy? I can't imagine a more heartwarming sight than a sudden POP of pink tinted fur. A couple of days ago I went outside to look at the plants. THREE of these critters were running all over my orchid cage. I ran screaming and yelling and waving my arms like a man possessed. Hello, just wondering how all of your Chocolate Mimosa seedlings are doing? I have 27 seedling up and growing and doing well. They, naturally, all are green. 3 older seedlings have started to change coloring. They are much darker than the normal Mimosa and hopefully will grow darker with time. The new growth on the 3 seedlings come out green but believe they will darken too as they mature. If you will notice in pictures of Chocolate Mimosa, the new growth is always green. Don't have enough experience with these, yet, to know if this is the way things go. It may be true that Chocolate Mimosa are propgated from cuttings. If these are widespread from Iran and other areas east of there, do the folks in that area go out and make cuttings everywhere? Or do they spread from seeds? My wife and I are pleased enough that we have ordered more seed. Do not know what we are going to do with them all, just like growing things. I don't recall at this time where I saw the listings, but did see some for Chocolate Mimosa. A nursery in Woodland, Washington has several, but they cost nearly $100 for plants that are about 3 1/2 to 4 feet high. That is one reason we are trying the seed route. Wayne

my son and family lived in germany where the boys were in love with kindereggs. they have a two piece plastic container that is kind of the shape of a c-battery but shorter. they are hard as the dickens to open! inside is a tiny toy that you construct using an instruction sheet, also inside and written in german. they are very intricate and wheels turn, etc. some series are whole items like clowns or animals or cars. there are collectors who pay good money for the toys. i still have a bag full of them and some are smaller than any toy parts i have seen here other than polly pocket dolls. the cylinder is contained inside a thin shell of two lays of chocolate...white and brown. it is a high quality candy and easily breaks into small pieces. you can also buy the candy by itself and my grandsons still get it from my daughter who now lives in germany. years ago i was able to buy kindereggs from a man in canada who sold them on ebay. the last time i tried, about 4 years ago, he no longer shipped to the us although the ban had been in effect prior to then. they just made the punishment harsher. so there, everything you need to know about them from someone with over 10 years experience.....lol.

I use pasteurized egg products - dried whole eggs, dried egg yolks and dried egg whites, which can be reconstituted and used instead of fresh shell eggs. I've used them for years because of convenience, price, and food safety. About the only time I get fresh shell eggs is when the store gives me a coupon for a dozen free, but I'd never serve anything that included a raw egg due to food safety issues - not after the food safety classes I've taken. BTW - ANY source for raw shell eggs can have salmonella issues. "Chickens get doses of salmonella bacteria (of which there are 2,300 kinds) from their environment, which is easily contaminated by rodents, birds and flies. These carriers deliver the bacteria to all types of farms -- regardless of whether they're conventional, organic or free-range." How does the chocolate become contaminated? (Salmonella?) And I wonder how company discovered the bacteria. Reports of illness or routine testing of batches?

Don’t workers wear gloves and masks?

Still under investigation since the timeline is not adding up. In the link i provided above...

"...A processing step involving buttermilk was the possible contamination point. The origin of contamination was a filter at the outlet of two raw material tanks, which was removed, cleaned and reconnected after negative testing. Chocolate products were distributed across Europe and globally after negative Salmonella testing.

In January, samples on semi-finished and finished products and surfaces were positive for Salmonella. The last Salmonella-positive was recorded on Jan. 11, 2022, from two buttermilk tanks..."

The FDA recall list does not include the Kinder Eggs. It is the bite sized assorment boxes and bags. Recall and package pictures, HERE
