Thanks for posting this. dh bought me one last year. Fortunately when the handle broke no one was hurt but I did just toss it. IIRC I made a comment at the time about it being Made in China. I will keep everyone who was hurt in my prayers. Burns can be very painful.

Deli Meat Recall
Q
Comments (16)
Well, I agree with those posters who scorn "deli meats" based on their quality (or lack thereof.) I far prefer to slice up my own chicken/ham/roast beef etc. Plus, it's cheaper! Barnmom does make a good point, regarding local meats having less potential for mishandling, etc. But I'd like to see a study or three weighing the points. Locally raised may have fewer possibilities for exposure, but are there also fewer points of inspection? I would like to see, for example, how the incidences of food borne illnesses compare, statistically, between folks who raise their own chickens for meat/egg consumption and folks who buy at the store. My point is not that store bought IS better...I just won't buy into the popular idea that local/natural/organic/more expensive/small farm raised foods are better just because they are local/natural/organic/more expensive/small farm raised foods. People have died of food borne illnesses since human beings first ate food...

With the current egg recall would you

I use pasteurized egg products - dried whole eggs, dried egg yolks and dried egg whites, which can be reconstituted and used instead of fresh shell eggs. I've used them for years because of convenience, price, and food safety. About the only time I get fresh shell eggs is when the store gives me a coupon for a dozen free, but I'd never serve anything that included a raw egg due to food safety issues - not after the food safety classes I've taken. BTW - ANY source for raw shell eggs can have salmonella issues. "Chickens get doses of salmonella bacteria (of which there are 2,300 kinds) from their environment, which is easily contaminated by rodents, birds and flies. These carriers deliver the bacteria to all types of farms -- regardless of whether they're conventional, organic or free-range." (Source: FDA - see link below) -Grainlady Here is a link that might be useful: How Does Salmonella Get Into Eggs
