I went back and forth between Fairy Tale Pink and Pearlfisher Pink while ordering. I ended up deciding on PfP with FTP as alternate if she doesn't have enough of PfP--primarily because I also ordered Barbara Mitchell which is an offspring of FTP with similar looks. Marian, Ellen @ Banner Daylily Garden has a clump sale going- FTP is $10 for a clump of at least 6f. That's about the best price I found for it. It's usually in the $6-8/df range at most places. Ellen has a lot of other pinks too. My most resent order was for Milk Chocolate (Carney '67). I love the color blends. (pix from Tinkers). Hard to imagine why it took so long to win an HM (2000). Field corn, yellow- Leaming corn, In this area it does better than Reid's Yellow Dent. It has big fat ears that mature sooner and dry down better. Field corn, white- Hickory King, It produced great despite one of the worst droughts we've ever had. I want to try Boone County White also. Sweet Corn- Golden Bantum, It grows like weeds and tastes good, not to sweet. It tastes like corn instead of like the nasty, super dooper, sugary ehanced hybrids. Beans- An unknown cranberry type I bought at the hardware store from a bulk bin four years ago. It produces very well and makes a good soup or snap bean. Yellow eye also does well here as a dry bean. Tomatos- Red Brandywine which I originaly got from Heirloom Seeds in Pennsylvania. It's the best tasting tomato I've ever had. Winter Squash- Walthum Butternut. It yeilds well, has good disease resistance, tastes good in pies. Summer Squash- Yellow Crookneck. It is easy to grow and tastes great. Potatoes- Anything from the grocery store that has a lot of sprouting eyes. Some people say don't plant those old potatoes from the grocery store but I've never had a problem with them. For some reason they just seem to grow as well as any seed potatoe sold at the hardware store. Peanuts- Raw Virginia jumbo peanuts sold at the grocery store as food. For seed it works just fine. Tobacco- Pennsylvania Seedleaf varieties also known as Pennsylvania Broadleaf which is better than any I've found for cigar filler, binder or wrapper. Virginia Gold, It's just one of the best for any type of filler. Any type of Burley filler, binder or wrapper. Pumpkins- New England pie pumkin. It produces well and is strong. It also tastes good. I want to try the Winter Luxury Pie variety though. I think it might taste even better but the New England Pie has done well for me. Okra- I had very good luck with a dwarf hybrid but you can't save seed. I think I will stick with the Clemson Spineless from now on as it also does well and I can save the seed.

I had about 110 kids, The night was beautiful and not too cool so all the neighborhood came out in droves. With help/advice of DD I even bought special non-allergenic organic candy and raisins and put a sign out saying for people to ask for them. Not one person did. I ended up just adding it all to the basket at the end. Around 8 p.m. the outsiders started coming in and were not happy that I didn't have real candy. After the third snarky kid walked away I turned off the lights. It was still fun to see all the kids dressed in costumes - especially the little ones. And, everyone from the neighborhood is always so polite. The teenage boy who wished me a Merry Christmas was delighted when I wished him a Happy New Year.

Ooh, maybe your daughter will bring you a box? That is odd that she called after you posted about them. I use to love to get a box of soft center See's chocolates, but they changed the variety a couple of years ago and took out some of the ones I liked most. It was disappointing enough that I haven't gotten a box since. A friend resorts to having a box put together with his favorite varieties, but I'm too lazy for that. Nowadays I'll pick up party sized bags of dove chocolates or the Giradelli squares. I'm not really that picky when it comes to chocolate!
