Comments (3)The 800 does have a nicer look and is stronger as well. Both the outer wall and the full extrusion are slightly thicker than the 500 and there's the sash reinforcement as well as the sill interlock. These items among others get you the gain in design pressure and air leakage performance, not that the 500 is a slouch in those areas of course. On the 600, there is a pretty narrow set of circumstances that it would be a fit IMO, primarily being that a dealer could not get the 8 or 5. The 800 and 500 each have a pretty compelling formula. It has kind of a mix of 800 and 500 parts, features, and options. Funky situation with the handle/sash lift. Thicker than the 500, slimmer than the 800. Measurements from frame to glass on lower sash to side jamb: 800: slightly under 3.25" 600: 3" 500: slightly over 2.75" Lastly, regarding availability, that will vary by dealer among all of those lines, not just the 600. Some may carry all, some only one or two. What I will say is that all are excellent choices and would serve you well, although I'd definitely put the 800 at the top of the list....See MoreOkna 600 review
Comments (34)I must be the first one to say that I hate my Okna windows. They put them in a double wide mobile home. They are double hung and they are heavy. When I go to pull down the top and tilt it in, they always go crooked no matter how careful I am and they jump the track and I can't get them back in. One, something busted that had to be fixed trying to get it back in. I don't know how many times I had to call the window company to come and put them back in. We got these to be easier to clean so my husband who is 74, wouldn't have to get on a ladder to clean the outside. It isn't worth it, so now they will be cleaned again from the outside and I guess I will be the one to get on the ladder as he has a lot of health problems. I paid over $13,000 for these to have it easier, not harder. One thing is that the strings on the sides seem too thin for the heavy windows. I had a contractor here and told him about it and he looked and said it is ridiculous. Thought It was me being a woman, even though I followed the instuctions from the company, but it started to go crooked for him too. Never again!...See MoreDeciding between Okna 600, Okna 800 and Starmark window in cherry....
Comments (7)I generally refer to it only as Melrose to avoid confusion, as its lighter than most cherries. Very versatile color. On the install, I like the laminated shoe mouldings when applicable as they kind of wash into the window and don't stand out, however the casing isn't my favorite for the reasons that you've mentioned. I prefer using real wood stained to match. You can still get "prefinished", and even preassembled in a product like Trim n Time: http://www.waudenamillwork.com/pages/TNT.aspx Lastly, I'd suggest taking a closer look at the install options if glass loss is the only reason that you are considering full tear outs. Often times you don't lose as much as you think, and sometimes none at all, especially if you have storms on the existing windows which encroach on the clear view as well. Your contractor should be able to take some measurements on that to see exactly how that would fall....See MoreOkna Windows vs Andersen and Pella
Comments (55)The quote was provided in Somerset county, NJ. I asked for a price breakdown to door and windows, because patio door is a must and windows could be optional that is why they came up separate. Also any suggestion for a built-mini blind to the Okna Elegante door? Would it degrease the weather efficiency? I didn't find any discussion about the embedded mini blind in the forum....See Moreascolling
