Okna 400 v. Okna 500
Comments (31)SOrry to hear about your problem. Was the source found? Did they determine that it was the window and not the roof? Did the installer refuse to fix it or deny responsibility? I don't think that I have read anyone "seminating" false facts that a low price is a scam. I only see advice from "behind the curtain" in the industry regarding what is a fair price and what is not. Even then, its all about the amount of risk involved. I think all would agree that buying from a tiny operation "no name" installer at a very low price is a much riskier proposition than an established company with a great reputation and history. Common sense. There are many statistics to prove that, and while sometimes an amazing deal is exactly that, there is a very good reason why construction has one of the highest complaint rates and a poor reputation, and its primarily because of fly by night companies as this is about the easiest industry to get into. Big companies aren't perfect either, but once again, the chances of problems are reduced in a linear fashion as the reputation, age, and size of a given company goes up. The trick for the the consumer is finding the balance point in that equation, where things are just right and cost and risk are balanced with the proper weight on each side. If there is any bad advice being "seminated" here, it is that using a "no name" at a price that seems to good to be true is a wise choice. If it worked for you that's great, but more times than not it results in people posting here looking for advice on how to deal with the debacle that they have found themselves in....See MoreOkna 600 series
Comments (1)The pricing is good and the okna 600 (Eco Pro) is a very solid window, one of the best in the industry. A lot of pro's really like this window. Pella vinyl windows are low quality and most experienced window contractors would never recommend pella or andersen vinyl for that matter. Same goes for alside, most window pro's never recommend alside or mi windows. some other good brands would be sunrise ( vanguard, restorations), soft lite windows ( elements, imperial), vytex windows ( potomac or fortis series ) , and kensington( quantum)....See MoreOkna Windows vs Castle Windows
Comments (3)The Okna 600 is a better window and I agree, its nicer looking than castle. I have nothing against castle windows, their window is ok but just not up there with okna or some of the other higher end windows. Castle can be pushy with their sales tactics and tend to put too much emphasis on their warranty. A good window and a good installer is the best warranty you could get in my opinion. Most windows are a limited lifetime warranty which is good and even better if its transferrable. A labor warranty of 2 years or more is fine. If the installer is good, a 5 minute labor warranty is plenty....See MoreIs exterior trim required on Okna Eco Pro 600 replacement windows?
Comments (6)The frame depth of your new window is the same as the vast majority of others (most likely same as all others that you've considered). Your original window could have a more shallow depth that would mean the window will extend in or out farther than original. The superior way is to push it in. As he explained though, no way would it be 3", it's more likely to be an inch or less, give or take. If the original was a customary 3 1/4" jamb depth and not a super cheap builder window that is less, then it will be the same. Back to the installation, how are they sizing the window? Same as original? Downsized to slide into the jamb return? With nail fin or without? We are happy to offer insight and advice, but only your contractor can answer your question at the end of the day because there are a few different ways to install a window in your situation....See MoreJim Lewis
