Keeping Clutter at Bay: Modern Living Rooms
I've been in serious decluttering mode since January 1. In order to keep myself from sputtering out and giving up, I check in each month and review what I have accomplished. Then I make a list of just how far I have to go. I also try to grab some inspiration material each month like the March Oprah magazine that's completely dedicated to organization, or Erin Doland's How to UnClutter Your Life in One Week.Ah, the living room.
Another way I try to keep inspired is to collect images of clean, bright, minimal spaces on Houzz. I have been saving my living room for last, as when I am not sleeping, I spend about 90% of my time at home in this room and it tends to get cluttered. Thus, I reference this collection of beautiful modern living rooms often. Today I thought, why not share them with all of you? If you want to keep things modern and clean, it's not so much about where to start, but where to stop. Modern means not cluttering up the space with a lot of STUFF.

Having a living room like this is more within my reach, because these people still have lot of eclectic stuff around.
Everything in this room draws the eye to the fireplace. The warm tone of the sofas and chairs keeps things from being too stark or bachelor pad-y.
This floor is T.D.F., and the artwork absolutely makes the space.
Another minimal room that lets the furniture and the view be the main focus.
Here the room extends out onto the patio, visually, and literally (when the door is open).
The space planning in this room is perfect for encouraging conversation; the amount of open space keeps it modern.
Modern Ski Chalet Chic
Conversation pit retro modern actually looks very current and up to date here.
I love the Rat Pack Palm Springs vibe here.
...oh, and that woodstove is the coolest thing!
There is actually A LOT going on here, but the white keeps it modern.
