IMO the room needs some drama. The addition of black accents helps. A rug with some gray and gold would make things more interesting. The teal pillows are to small, not filled with down and the wrong color for this room.

Oh wow, love! Where did you get these pillows and frame from? This looks great! Do you think the look can be achieved with keeping the rugs and just adding pillows and frame?

Definitely agree with the pro above. In my humble opinion, keep it simple===pick two or three colors you love (gold, black, white, etc. or a warmer combination), have the "dramatic" rug be your large-scale show stopper, and add smaller-scale patterned pillows that suggest stripes or dots (whatever pattern you didn't use in the rug). I'm English so I love lots of layered patterns with a simple color palette. I cheat by finding a rug I'm in love (color and style) with and then decorate around that---fwiw. Love your curtains. I like the rug in the third picture

The rug pulls the room together. It doesn’t have to be that exact rug but one that picks up the accent gold color of your drapes is necessary. The frame on the wall is just drawn. It’s not real but there are plenty of black canvases out there. The pillows are covers from Etsy. About 22” or 24” square.

Of the rugs you've got, I think the oriental works best in your space. I don't think you need to replace it with a gold and grey one. But the teal patterned cushions definitely should live elsewhere. Beverly is right about adding some contrast. Take a picture of your room in black and white and you'll be able to see exactly why you're not currently satisfied despite having a pleasing layout and some nice pieces-- pretty much everything is midtones.

Is the oriental the preferred for your feet? I like its warmth, and with brick and style of house.

I've seen nice balanced rooms: using light/medium grey, with warm wood tones and warms like your tan curtains, medium wood accents.

I think the grey rug is too casual.

JMO.... the snake rug does not work. It doesn't bring the room together. It brings it down.

Out of all the rugs you have posted I would stay with the plain rug and add all your drama in art and pillows.

If you are changing rugs, consider what @BeverlyFLADeziner has posted and adding the pillows she has posted.

I like the idea of bringing in black and maybe a bit more of your gold. I think the snake rug is fine as well as larger underlayed rug.

Try just changing pillows. It’s a nice space and you’ve done a beautiful job with it.

Add a stronger accent color.

Too much fabric on the windows. Try one rod, instead of two and stack back the fabric to the left and to the right...leave the middle free.

Replace the yellow chair with a richer color. Keep it as your accent color.

I think your black rug can still work. Get right pillows and frames above the sofa and mantel.

Love the Oriental rug in there, with snake rug outside the door (pic 3). I really like this room and your style and think that rug brings in just the right amount of traditional for a wonderful eclectic, collected look. Very high-end European feel. I wouldn’t look for a graphic or abstract rug that only has colors that match other elements. Not for this room.

Not much I’d change. It looks very personal, and sophisticated, instead of the no character bland staged color-by-numbers look. It’s refreshing to see here.

Love your curtains.

The only thing I’d do is find some beautiful pillows, as if they were art. Maybe a whimsical, but elegant, animal print mixed in with others. And if you like plants, I think a few might look nice.

I prefer the oriental rug in your third photo. I would center it on the fireplace about 18" from the hearth, if you have one. Your drapes look pretty good when closed but I would prefer them to cover all the wall area when open. I would also prefer a rod that matches the wall color and doesn't draw the eye to it. Is your sofa high enough to place it at this end of the room, facing the windows, with the drop leaf table and chairs pushed up to the back of it and the arc lamp hovering above the table? Chairs, plus a table and lamp, could go at the window end. Can't really see your accessories, but the dog picture would need to move if the drapes are allowed to cover the walls when open.

I think I will return the oriental rug then, the reason for moving it was because it’s quite thin and the grey one is quite thick and good for the feet and soul. But i am inclined to agree. Also the teal pillows should be sent far away so good feedback on that. I think I will certainly take on the advice

You can (and should) get an underlayment for your rugs. It will help them wear better and as a bonus, your rugs will feel plusher.
