Next Step...Painting....and I need your help!! [Photo heavy]
Comments (60)Thanks Ramses, but my DH vetoed anything brown or tan immediately...he doesn't like brown walls. I know, there are different kinds of browns and tans, but at this point I don't want to argue over, I mean discuss :-), it anymore. I was also thinking of a gray, but thought that would be too close to the black/white I'm known for. I want color! So, we decided to go with the Cornsilk in the Kitchen & DR and Wedgewood Gray in the FR and, I think, the LR. My DH is out buying the paint as I type! The color opinions here & on the Home Decorating Forum were split about equally...half for Cornsilk/half for Wedgewood. We decided to go w/our original plans b/c, as David123 said, it's easy enough to change it if we don't like it...or if after this foray into color I get bolder and want deeper/different colors! I'm taking baby steps here...! BTW...I did call a couple of BM stores near us and neither had color consultants any more other than the store staff. They both told me they discontinued the consultants...didn't really get a good answer why. So, what does everyone think about A TP holder w/room for extra rolls and a similar one for towels that are recessed into the wall OR A stand for TP in the corner in front of the toilet & towel rack for towel hung over the toilet OR A TP holder mounted on the wall in front of the toilet (sides are too tight) and a towel rack above it OR Something else all together?...See MoreWe Are In the Home Stretch-photo heavy
Comments (33)Hi Elle3. Let me try and help you as I'm long distance right now in NY and the apartment is in FL. Thank you btw. The Irish Lace Donegal color is just a hair lighter than BM-34 Wilmington Tan. It's a beautiful tannish color and the tile has some mottling with the edges slightly darker and the center slightly lighter. (Not as much as shows on the Jeffrey Court website.) It's subtle which is what I wanted. Some tiles have such a large swing in color, but this doesn't. The Jeffrey Court tile also has two other colors we considered. One is called Cork and the other is called Tipperary. Both also would have worked. I'd get a sample of all three as the shading is close but slightly different. The Cork has a green cast to it and the Tipperary has more of a taupy beige cast to it. Any of the three would have worked beautifully with the cherry. What finally swayed me is that since my LR/DR/kitchen all open to one another, I wanted a warm tan color in the rest of the apartment. The Donegal was the warmest. I think any of the three would work with the Uba Tuba. Definitely get a sample. Where are you located? I ordered mine locally in SW FL. As for the grout color, I'll have to get back to you when I'm down there as I don't remember what brand or color. I return to FL on Xmas day and it will take me a couple of days to get settled with putting things away, buying what we still need (we started from scratch there as it's our snowbird place), setting up the computer, etc....See MoreFamily Room, Great Room Design, Decor , HELP
Comments (6)It looks like the best thing is to start with a new 3 seat sofa. Since you have the TV above the mantle, we assume you want your seating positioned that way. Then you will want two chairs to go on the wall directly across from the slider. You also may like a rug? Below you can get a lot of great ideas from designs of ours. Note the furniture, rugs, end tables, pillows, lamps, artwork, window treatments, coffee tables, and various other decor accessories....See Morehow to get rid of the heavy look in our living room
Comments (9)you're on the right path-you need to introduce textures other than wood, say metal finishes, ceramics (like stools that can function as side table), stone etc. Basically everything that reflects light some more. Wood can be incorporated too, of course. Soft textures as well for a rug..yes to lighter rug, just pay close attention to function..I see you have small kids, so you want something easy to maintain, and not a tripping harazd. I'd vary colors too-don't make things too matched..I for example would switch pillows on your cranberry red sofa so it won't look like everything is supermatched to art above. Bigger credenza would be indeed very useful..both for proportion (visually) and function(storage) If you like patterns-introduce them. Some have very modern sensibility. Geometry, some large florals... Depends how streamlined you want your furniture to be, also whether you're okay with sharp edges etc, so I hesitate to post exact suggestions. But as an example.. light painted metal coffee table https://shophorne.com/products/tier-coffee-table interesting side table..used material(transparent plastic) makes it modern even though the lines mock traditional tablecloth https://shophorne.com/products/grand-illusion-side-table-clear you can find all sorts of ceramic stools on Anthropologie website ..not only there of course..but again, just to take a look. These are heavy enough not to break them, but if you're wary about it-check side tables with similar sensibility but made of different materials. https://www.anthropologie.com/furniture-end-tables check also their sister site. Urban Outfitters (and read reviews closely everywhere-can be a hit or a miss) if you like funny..) )https://www.urbanoutfitters.com/shop/birdy-side-table?category=tables&color=070&type=DEFAULT (sorry for posting links instead of pics..not every site lets you to save) there are so many cool rugs out there this is probably too matchy..but I still like it. Modern, simple, interesting. 100% wool-wool is easier to tale care of https://shophorne.com/collections/rugs/products/chandra-counterfeit-series-cou-18213 Add texture/light fabrics in your pillows..(you can find these anywhere), collect art that speaks to you, without worrying too much about colors..sure, take into account but don't let room dictate you too much, art is art..group small things together-say photo frames..add live plants-these immediately bring life, color, and texture to any room. Knowing your budget will be helpful..since I love to spend other people's money as much as everybody..and been holding myself from some cool suggestions..))...See MoreAnnie Deighnaugh
