So you have ‘red’, white, and blue right now with oak shutters, trim and the black cupboard — is that staying? What type of furniture do you have elsewhere in the house? Contemporary? Is the chandelier seriously moving? Would you consider re-staining the table or painting the cupboard?

Thanks for your reply. The cupboard is a very very dark brown stain, so yea black. I'm open to moving that elsewhere if it cannot be incorporated. Would prefer to leave the table as is for now, as I don't want another project to tackle. Across the hall we have a bar room with light pine bar/stools also done in a navy accent wall. The living room is also a work in progress, but will be trending towards contemporary/modern/mcm. And yes, the wife doesn't like the chandelier, but it doesn't help that i will have a taxidermy piece in the bar soon. Do you like it :)?

I think you need to try to stay with navy, white (not exceptionally practical for dining room chairs) and the clear oak trim leaving the table as a feature. A great rug (blues, white, possibly other colors as long as it includes a very tiny bit of deep red) would make this look fantastic. I think you want all the same low height navy (or white/cream) fabric chairs whose backs would obscure the red of the table some. Match the legs to the lighter oak of the chair rail and shutters. See if any of these are interesting.

You could always paint the cupboard to match the lower part of the wall.

I’ve had a long term love affair with these chairs. They offer other colors if you’d like to contrast with the navy walls.

My first thought was "wow so much going on with all the different woods/colors" Great floors. I have a navy dining room (BM Abyss so darker than your Hale Navy) and cherry furniture (darker & more brown than yours. I would remove the chair rail and paint all the walls the Hale Navy (I know you just painted & don't need another project but.....) Paint the baseboard white. Get a rug - I did a solid color pearl gray - to separate the oak floor from the cherry table. A chair similar to the blue chair you posted in a medium gray would look nice

I think the natural color with the dark trim would help tie in your dark armoire.

And here are the first chairs I suggested (by Palecek) in gray rather than navy. I like rattan or wicker in your room to balance the heaviness of the dark paint and armoire.

I think all gray chairs and all matching. What is the size of the table?

Its on the smaller side, not completely sure of measurements. 6 ft long? It has an extension on each end that makes it 8 ft?

Mine is 96" and just fits 3 chairs on each side. They are armless so not as wide as some suggested here

Yea, its a tight fit to get 2 chairs between the legs. If two people over 6 foot or 200 lbs were to try, it may not work. At work so cannot measure currently.
