need help navy dining room

Please help suggest whether or not to paint walls navy, or board and batten navy. Want to change fabric for chairs. Not married to pictures, but like them, don’t think they are hung right. Where to put China cabinet?

What a lovely home!

I am not a fan of how you painted the ceiling. I prefer it all white.

Then, I would paint just the walls above the board and batten.

In this case, yes you would need to change out the pictures as they would blend in too much with the walls.

Add a rug under the table and from that you can figure out material for chairs.

I have about that size dining room with walkways on all sides. In my previous house, I had a 48" square dining table that I used when we moved in. I bought a 48" round table, it was amazing the difference it made. There are only 3 of us so I just keep 3 chairs around the table on a daily basis. You could do a drop leaf. I am not sure it you could find one in a style that would go with your house. I have 2 drop leafs that I use around the house and bring out when I need more tables for company but they are both Duncan Phyfe antiques. Another option would be a round with a leaf or two that expands for family. You'll be amazed how a round fits the space better. Something about cutting off those sharp corners make it easier to maneuver through the rooms.

The plan separates each living space with access from a central hall. It would work well for an office building but not so much for a house especially f you plan to entertain. I find that trying to make a good plan out of a bad one is usually a waste of time and effort. Its like renovating a house that hasn't been built yet. Decide what you think an entertainment space should look like and develop the house around it. But I would not design a house around an occasional use. The interrelationships of family members should be the dominant theme of a house. And I would never put a level change in a living space unless there was an alternate wheelchair route. If you plan to entertain, the front door should have wheelchair access too. An accessible half bath would be good too.

It really depends like Color Zen said. Pictures would help. Personally, I love navy. It's a color while also being a neutral and it works well with warm and cool colors.

Yes, arrangement looks much better!! If you are anxious to paint, you could roll out the Natural Wicker, as you are going to need a primer anyway over that deep paint. Won't hurt to use is as basically a primer. I can't really recommend a paint until you are finished with the room. Your next step will be chairs, lamps, end tables, lamps (I would get a nesting coffee table or oval), art and drapes (which are too short).

I find the board and batten forcing the art to be hung too high but I love navy walls and especailly since the ceiling is already done . I find the china cabinet a bit odd for the space and IMO a nice buffet would be a better choice Yes you need a rug and then choose the covers for the chairs . I also do not ever like angled seating at a table it is so limiting I would suggest a nice round glass top if you want a glass table in quite thick glass and since I am not sure of the room size I can only guess at least as large as what you have, IMO if plants are not healthy do not use them and I always like drapes in DRs

Thank you all for your opinions. I will work on getting rug. I plan on painting walls above trim navy and doing white curtains. The China cabinet was my grandmothers(which actually still smells like her house) so I would like to keep it and the table. What do you think about turning China cabinet in corner to the right of where it is, placing accessories on top and possibly balancing out other side of room with tree?
