Is Bedroom too small to have a Piano?

I have a very small digital piano that brings me great joy--as an adult learner just for fun. The best place in our room layouts is either in the den/office or in the master. I like the idea of having the piano in the bedroom. It is black ebony which adds a little drama I think and the piano is such a small scale that I think it works. What do you think? Do I need to find another place for the piano? My layout isn't exactly correct. The room is 14'5" x 14". The piano is 58" x 34.5" I also have a painting my husband did that I think will fit nicely on the wall opposite the bed. Dimensions are 40.5" square. And, if you like the piano and painting in the MBR what would you do as far as colors for bedding and chair for the light airy house in Florida? The floor will be carpeted. The paint will be neutral - Maybe an accent or wallpaper wall behind the bed. I haven't selected the bed yet but thinking of a neutral as well. Open to all ideas. Forgot to mention that is digital and I play with headphones.

Comments (35)MrsPete, you are exactly right! As long as I was just THINKING about things, I could consider lots of different ideas. But when the "rubber hits the road" or when the time comes to think about paying for all these great ideas, I'd rather have it paid for with a REALITY CHECK. I can afford more of that. One thing I had on my idea list was an emergency natural gas generator, like the brand Generac. However, with all the other things we need now, that is going to have to be postponed. We will have natural gas range and water heater, and maybe a small gasoline generator to carry the fridge and the a/c. It will be mostly hot weather when our emergencies occur. In the house plan we just recently worked out, the original bedroom is staying the same size. But where the exterior wall once was, we will take out a single window and widen that into about 5 foot wide opening, same as the passageway from living to dining room. Then that allows us a sitting area for us, with an 8' wide closet at one end, I wear a lot of long caftans or muumuus whatever, and then I can keep my sewing in on end of the space too. Future residents can have the option of adding another doorway to the wider opening, I've made it possible to have a kingsize bed on two walls of the bedroom (we only like a queen). Present plans though are for a surface mounted door using barn door hardware. Haven't bought the hardware yet, but we are using an old heavy cypress door salvaged from our house destroyed by Katrina. My DH likes things finished nicely, while I like OLD look, with some of the paint left on it, sanded of course, and then sealed. Comments (9)I had a room that size, probably smaller, as child in two different homes. Cannot remember that they were small to me personally. I spent a lot of time outdoors playing and activities inside the rest of the house. If you have plenty of room throughout the rest of your home for toys and play, in my mind it would be functional. There are so many storage options for beds with under storage, putting dressers in closets and using lights and storage on walls. Being creative in a small room can be great fun. As a nursery it would be fine, enough room for essential furniture. A full size bed is approx. 54 X 72. You might want to lay tape over a rug or floor and imagine the options from there and also lay out furniture if you already have some. If I were a guest in the small room, it wouldn't be a complaint from me. Someone posted a wonderful loft that barely fit a full size bed. Used for guests and a cozy reading area. Comments (42)When I had the master suite created in my DH's home up north, it was crowded for bedside tables too. So I got two wooden tall plant stands, with 12x12" tops. They fit perfectly fine. Then swing arm wall mounted lamps for each side of the bed. Enough room for a book on the shelf below and a glass of water or whatever. I never just use an end table when there is an option to have a small chest beside the table. That works even in a small room with limited storage space. Every item has to WORK to make the cut when space is scarce. And, in the bedroom in Alabama, I am going to be sorry to leave it for the BACK bedroom, which will become an ensuite master, because it is beginning to look SO comfortable. It is a west-facing bedroom, on the street. It has two PAIRS of windows, and the closet and entry to the bedroom are on a third wall. That leaves one wall which has no windows and no doors or other obstructions. However, I did not want the bed to be sideways in front of the entry door, so had to put the bed first diagonally in the corner between the two pairs of windows. This worked fine for a while, with the wicker chests I use for bedside tables centered between the windows. However, it was hard to make up the bed. So I decided to center the bed in front of the windows on the street wall. I closed the blinds to block the high heat coming through those windows anyway. And then I found some floor/ceiling grommet drapes at Tuesday Mornings! That is when I got DH to install crown molding wide enough to mount the double drapery rods, and I started planning 3 layers of curtains...grommet drapes wall to wall on both window walls, sheers on the second drapery rod, and finally the top-down roman shades using 90% shade cloth and Thermasuede fabric as a liner. I am almost done with the curtain project, but even with the shade cloth pinned in place on the west wall, the difference in heat gain is significant. This room is 12 x 12 give or take an inch. We changed out sliding closet doors for 2 pair of Jeldwen bifold shutter doors which I painted to match the crown molding and base boards and other wood work. The wicker chests are on either side of a full sized bed, with lots of breathing room. There is a rocking chair near the closet. There is a third chest between the closet and the door to the hall, and a wall mount TV is above the chest. So now I've ordered the Hudson queen size storage bed from Room and Board in cherry. It should arrive this month. I can hardly wait. It is a platform bed with no footboard, and no box springs, and it measures 60 x 80. A full bed is 54 x 75, so only a few significant inches of comfort which I look forward to having. But when the contractor finally comes, and bumps out the master bath for a tub and a long walk in closet, we'll be moving this new jewel to the back bedroom. This current bedroom will convert to a nice study/guest room. Only we seldom have over night guests, and may just put desks and bookcases in there until we move the contents of the up-north house. It seems to me that we have plenty of space in the 12 x 12 bedroom. Since we've repainted and made the room so peaceful, I will now take a horizontal break to meditate or read or chat on the phone. It looks good in natural or ambient light all times of day since northern exposures give true light, and the shade cloth gives a sense of separation from the street. Comments (5)Buy an eye/sleep mask. I’m serious. I get claustrophobic when all the windows are covered up by shades/blinds and I also like the ventilation of an open window. I am an extremely light sleeper. I run an air purifier next to my bed for white noise and I wear an eye mask to block out the light.
