Did you know this about printer ink?
Comments (14)Yes, I knew there were expiration dates on ink (there's expiration dates on many things people wouldn't necessarily think about, peroxide & alcohol are just a couple) and there's also good and bad ways to store ink. You don't want to stockpile too much. I was looking in the store at the ink cartridges and wasn't surprised that the rotation wasn't maintained. Won't name the store. A couple people go crazy when it's mentioned. So watch when you buy too. Also, many if not most have a chip inside them to say they're out of ink before they actually are. They have to declare how much ink is in a cartridge but not how much you can actually use. On my Epson, there's a little reset switch. It gave me the message that it was out of ink. I pushed the reset and looky here, all of a sudden there's ink in there again! How it works varies from printer to printer but usually look around the electrical connection and there might be the little spot to poke a paper clip. The maddening part is that it has to cost more to put the electronics in there than it costs for the ink but they keep you buying it....See MorePrinter Ink sticker shock.......LOL
Comments (8)Ok...let me take these questions in order....LOL Mare wbpa I do not have to use Kodak paper, but if I use any paper other than Kodak I have to run a test print to do the setup to match the printer to the paper, but that test page is common to all the other printers I have ever used. The advantage with the kodak paper is that kodak has printed a bar code on the back side of the paper that is read by the printer and it automatically does the setup. For my purposes that is extremely handy because I often switch from Glossy, to Ultra-glossy or Matt and I don't have to mess with test prints, just pop in the paper I want and it works perfect. I find that at Staples there is a substantial difference in price between the kodak paper and the HP or generic, but at Walmart the Kodak 100 sheet pack of 4x6 paper is about $8 which is about $1 more than the HP amd the 8.5 x 11 is about $3 more per 100 sheets and believe it or not, the price of photo paper at walmart is cheaper than what you can find on ebay. Now in regards to print quality. I have on three occassions printed 6 prints on this printer, then had the same prints printed at Walmart photo center & staples photo center, then we laid the prints out side by side to see which looked better, and in all instances even the photo techs running the photo centers agreed they like the kodak prints better. jasdip,,, I don't know what model of kodak printer your stepfather has, but I have the kodak ESP 7250 all in one, printer scanner and I have never encountered any problem with the printer stopping, In fact, I have printed right down to were a print comes out missing the black or one of the colors. The printer does have a service monitor that keeps track of the ink level and when a cartridge gets down to 1/3 it will post a popup window that informs you that it is low on ink and reminding you to order a new cartridge, but it does not stop printing. For plain paper copies I don't buy printer paper. I buy the cheap $2.50/ream copier paper and when I print a document that has a photo the photo even comes out looking good on the cheap copier paper. Another thing I really like is that the ink is completely dry and the photos are ready to handle as soon as they come out of the printer. Another thing I like is that this printer has two paper trays..you can put 4x6 or 5x7 in the top tray and 8x10 or 8.5x11 in the bottom tray and you just select the size of print you want when you send the photo to the printer....See MorePrice spikes in generic drugs
Comments (2)I was the one complaining about the current high cost of doxycycline, Sushipup. Thanks for the article. They even mention doxy--and those numbers are outrageous. My doctor had no idea the cost had shot up like that. I heard about the "pay for delay" on NPR news a while back. That practice doesn't sound as though it should be legal, but I guess it is. Here's the example given in the article: One of the most egregious examples he cites is Plavix, an anticlotting medication prescribed to prevent stroke. When the patent was challenged, the company that makes the drug agreed to pay a generic manufacturer tens of millions of dollars not to enter the market. "The brand-name drugmaker wins because they get to go on charging high prices," Joyce says. "The generic companies win because they get paid not to make a drug."...See MoreI HATE my printer!
Comments (29)I switched from Epson to HP as at least the color cartridges were replaceable individually - old Epson was not. What is weird is that it's just the black cartridge that is the problem - all the color 3rd party ones work just fine. Google told me this is a known problem - apparently, it's the control for the black that triggers the "this is not an HP cartridge" and then messes with the black one. What is strange, is that the 3rd party cartridges got excellent reviews on Amazon. I think they may have been from the 3rd party themselves - this is a big problem with smaller sellers on Amazon and eBay - they get their employees/friends/neighbors to write great reviews. These ink cartridges are a HUGE rip-off, price wise. Yes, I know - it's how the companies make their printers very cheap. I do use the color so I don't want a Laser printer and color ones are very expensive. Plus I really need the all-in-one in order to be able to copy and FAX. My HP is the HP 309a and has been a very good All-in-one printer. I'm a bit tempted to buy a new printhead on eBay for $35 and see if this fixes the problem with HP ink, but the ink alone is almost $100 for all the colors. I can buy a Canon for less than this. Yes, I was VERY uncomfortable with the HP Customer Service wanting to have access to my computer. I have allowed Apple to do this when I had a problem, but HP? And then when this guy started trying to scare me into thinking I had tons of "problems" and malware on my computer, I got even more nervous - HIGHLY unlikely on a Mac. Then we got to his pitch that he could "fix" my computer and "clean it" and then send me a reconditioned HP just like the one I had for $399. Whoa!!!!!! I did run a free and highly recommended malware program after this phone call - was afraid of what HE might have put on my computer! I was horrified to see that he had gone into Terminal Mode - this is BIG TIME and there would be no reason to do this if it were a software glitch - just reinstall the printer driers. No malware. He was just expecting me to be a typical non-computer savvy customer who could be easily scared into buying anything. Wrong customer!!!! But this experience certainly gave me a VERY bad taste in my mouth about HP and I won't buy one again. I'm in no hurry to make a decision. I don't need my Proof of Insurance card until 1 July and I have the tax document on my computer and can convert it to a PDF file, put it on a thumb drive, and print it off SIL's printer is needed (it's not - it's just for my records). But this experience showed me that it's not just those phone phony phone calls alleging to be from ones credit card company (funny - I don't have a Visa or MC so why are they calling?) that are out to try to fool the public. I would have expected better of a large company like HP. I have no doubt that like many large companies, they outsource their customer service dept to off-shore 3rd party companies and they are not very closely monitored. BIG mistake!...See More- 4 years ago
