Leveling hardwood floor for LVP

Geoffrey Newcomb

Recently purchased a post and peer home with half inch hardwood flooring. The house is about 50 years old. The floor while sturdy is a bit lumpy in places. Definitely needing some leveling before I put down LVP. The hardwood while sturdy is not in good enough shape to be our floor. Further complicating this is that the entire home is slightly off level. My plan was to screw down and secure the hardwood floor, prime the floors and use self-leveler where too much deflection exists for the LVP. I did a little more research and realized that the floors may be too thin to use a concrete self leveler? It makes sense with deflection it would crack? How best to deal with such a problem? I'm hoping to avoid laying down a new subfloor over the hardwood. The hardwood is the floor, there is no subfloor underneath it. Thoughts?
