Decorating dilemma for living room
Comments (33)Here it is, six months after my original posting, and I just painted the living room yesterday ( and actually still have to freshen the paneling and trim with a fresh coat too!) I did decide on my paint color not long after my original post and purchased the paint, but it sat around a few months. I had a major event occur which took my mind completely off decorating... my mare had a foal, rejected him, and I've spent the last 10 weeks being a mother to a four legged colt. It has been very time consuming and incredibly rewarding, but left little time for much else... The new paint color is a terra cotta shade, and I love it! My DH kept saying he really liked the red, so this is not much of a departure, but warmer and lighter than what was there before. Haven't done anything with the fabric yet... too busy halter breaking my colt. Anyway, here are pics of the new paint color, and pics of Tuff, my handsome boy. Color is Bold Brick by Sherwin Williams. Color is dun (complete with dorsal stripe) compliments of his sire....See MoreWould you build a pool in Florida with no Screen Enclosure?
Comments (48)I posted here years ago when we were deciding about taking our pool screen down. We did it and It was the best decision we made! It looks much better and we dont have issues with debris and bugs (we did have to cut some trees down close to the pool). We love having it all open. Regarding the fence so you can still see the bay, our friends have a fence that looks modern and you can still see through. I posted a pic of our pool and an example of a possible fence....See MoreNeed advice on Pool Enclosure and Pool House
Comments (6)Hi Lax There are definitely gaps to the enclosure. The whole thing sits on a rail system (ours has 3 parallel) and each module has to be able to telescope over each other therefore there has to be wiggle room. The company tries to compensate by using rubber flaps along the perimeter of each section but they certainly don't keep the cold out. Also, the building has an R-value of only 5... Our unit was manufactured 4 or so years ago and since then, they have greatly improved the technology of the overall unit so we've been told. But since we saved a HUGE chunk of change we don't mind dealing w/ a 9 month season instead of possibly 12! There is a guy here in CT who tried keeping his pool open 12 months the first year he installed the enclosure. His pool is only 12X24 yet it cost him TONS to keep the heat in. His enclosure sits b/ a large shed for one end wall and his house for the other. He installed a huge gas heater in the shed to blow hot air into the enclosure but found it to be too costly. Now he shuts down the day after Thanksgiving and re-opens April 1. He has a lot of sun year round which is a big help. You may not be able to actually heat year round w/ gas/heat pump w/o spending a fortune but if you have a lot of sun exposure you'll be amazed at how hot it gets inside due to the greenhouse effect. A woman in TX uses hers year round; she installed a large electric heater like those found at the entryway of Lowe's/Home Depot. Even in the winter when she gets some snow, she told me it was so warm due to the sun she had to turn off the heater and open the windows! Her enclosure is HUGE: the pool alone is 60' long! Wish we didn't have a tall tree line behind our house; lose our sun by the end of Oct. The trees belong to the backyard neighbor so I can't touch them... Keep us posted! Comments (20)My husband and I have done what you suggested by drawing up some plans We have started with the smaller version. Thank you for your offer of help. I think we are both realizing that we can’t get everything we dream of in the space as originally planned. He does not want to put a tv in front of a window because of the wiring etc. can be seen on the outside. He has mentioned also that with this size of room, it may be difficult to sit back far enough to view a TV. In terms of dining, since we seldom have a crowd for a sit down meal, I suggested that we not put a permenant dining table in. We can rent a table as the need arises and rearrange the room. If I can move my china cabinet to this space, it will open room in my 12x12 dining room so I can get a larger table in that room. If we use swivel chairs in the addition, we can easily turn the chairs for viewing or conversations. The posted picture is the latest version of our possible furniture layout. Floor lamps would go on each side of the sofa. The door to the left of the sofa will be a door size window so no traffic will go in and out here. The coffee table will be a padded bench with a tray. This plan may still be too tight We would love to see your thoughts with the original size space or the larger version....See MoreSigrid
