Please help, I am struggling picking a fabric for the new sofa.

Please help, I am struggling picking a fabric for the new sofa that will coordinate with the chair. I second guess myself and don't want to make an expensive mistake. The room has seven windows and the walls are BM Stone Harbor but considering repainting. Do I pick a darker color for contrast or do I stay neutral and use pillows and an ottoman to bring in color

Blue. For everything that‘s holy, please no gray.

I like your chair fabric. Looks like your rug has some blue? Excellent.

I like the blues too. The grays are too close, but not quite. I nine is the best of the grays though.

If you can sew . . . I've been looking at some of my regular bloggers pages this weekend and noticed some of the pictures from the quilt market. These fabrics are cotton, just not 54 inches wide (or at least quilting fabric usually isn't that wide). The colors all looked so bright and fresh in the pictures. I started with a blog I read regularly, jackiebluehome.blogspot.com/ She has some links on the righthand side of her page of where to buy fabrics. Scroll down to the previous posting of her visit to the quilt market. She is currently designing some of her own things. Then I found a fun blog, jenniferpaganelli.typepad.com/ You'll enjoy looking through her fabric pics. It's difficult to find fabrics for young kids rooms from the regular design books. They just don't make very big selections and they are all expensive anyway. I think the quilting fabric is all washable. And don't forget Amy Butler's fabrics. They're easy to find with a search.

I like the lighter tone of the fabric on the left in the picture. Better contrast with everything else. Both are nice...but if you choose the one on the right everything will have the same "value." Have you ever seen those red filters quilters who have a hard time seeing values judge fabrics with? If you looked at both samples I'd bet dollars to donutst that the fabric on the right in the pictue would "read" just about identical to the drapes and sofa.

I think if you are worried by staining quartz is probably the way to go, I know the white granites also are prone to staining and while sealing does protect them it is not fool proof and you do have to reseal. Someone on the forum has marble and put glass on top when she had company - I searched for the thread and could not find it though. Maybe someone else can remember who that is?

Thanks, guys...I will call around and find another Marmoleum installer and see whether that is an option still open to me. If I do go with Marmoleum, I think it should be sheet and pretty plain. Any recommendations on light or dark? Maybe I should photoshop it and see what it would look like both ways. I'm going to have to come up with a wood/tile (wood in kitchen, tile in the hall) option for DH. He's set on wood, even though I'm not convinced. I've worked myself into a corner here!! EAM44, I just can't do tile in the kitchen, although that one is tempting! I had tile in my last kitchen and after 30 minutes of hanging out, my back would start to ache. In an hour (not unusual for big involved meals) and I would be in pretty significant pain. And I don't have back problems!

Houssaon - is #3 gray or beige? #8 works well with the chair but I don't want to go very gray.

Also, our screens show color differently from what you see (in terms of the subtle tones, etc.) I can tell there are three blues in your swatches but not the subtle shading within each color that would differentiate them.

Personally, I don't think any of them are great choices with your chairs. On my monitor your chairs have a brownish tone to them. Are you reupholstering or purchasing new? Is that your rug that is showing in picture #1?

jck910 - the chair has brown and pewter. I narrowed it down to these two fabrics, more neutral it would be so much easier to work with down the road. We are buying a new rug for the room.
