Houzz Has Become UnManageable... I Can't Search 50,000 Photos!
Comments (79)When I started using Houzz I was amazed at how accurate the results of my searches were (in addition to the size of the photos database). It was a great resource. More recently when I've prepared to undertake projects, I've noticed that I just don't get the same, accurate results. My searches are riddled with results that just aren't pertinent. I think this is due to the incorporation of advertisers from my city and surrounding areas (contractors, builders, and others). There are enough ads (or results that are somehow influenced by someone who has something to sell) now to really hinder the flow of design ideas. I guess many internet sites end up using advertisers but it morphs the user experience. It's really made using Houzz less fruitful....See MoreLayout has changed, but has it improved???
Comments (18)I've been staring at your layout for quite a while and really can't figure out what to suggest. It seems like you have so much space, but the kitchen looks awkward to me. Personally, I wouldn't want the clean up sink on the peninsula looking over the breakfast room, but I'm not really sure where else to suggest moving it. Butler's Pantry - if you really think kids are going to be running thru there, I'm not really sure if I would want it as my "snack center". Imagine when your kids are older and you and your DH are standing in there fixing coffee and bagels and the kids try to run through. Just seems like a small space to get those types of tasks done. Dish storage-I agree with Bmore that the type of hutch you're talking about could be difficult to access. Also, if your dishes are near the sink, they are fairly far from frig, pantry and proposed "snack center". The easiest path is right between the prep sink and range, which could be an issue. I also think you have a long walk with groceries from the garage, thru the mudroom, thru the butlers pantry into the kitchen. Depending on what you do with the pantry/laundry room space, you might want a door from the garage into one of those rooms so you have a straight shot with groceries. This might be crazy, but I almost see a better space with 2 islands instead of that peninsula. Shrink the bigger island the 6' and then add a second island next to it that would house the clean up sink and DW. You could unload dishes into upper cabs and lower drawers on the back wall.It wouldd almost be like a galley kitchen with 2 islands. Or...you could do 1 really long island. Another idea...does the pantry have to be on that side of the kitchen? If you moved it to the other side, eliminated the peninsula, closed up that pantry doorway, you would have more counter space(I think). You could move the range a little further towards the frig and get the clean up sink on the back wall. I'm sorry if this is sounding negative. I'm really just trying to help. There's just something not working for me here. Any chance of widening the kitchen at all? I think the biggest issue is that you have very limited wall space. You only really have the back wall, which when you factor in the doorway for the pantry, there's not that much room there either....See MoreAnother glitch with "search" feature
Comments (14)Raven, can you apply a userscript in your browser? (Using something akin to Greasemonkey? Tampermonkey perhaps?) If so, this userscript might help: // ==UserScript== // @name fixSearch // @namespace unique.namespace.489ijkdf.namespace.can.be.anything.unique // @include *gardenweb.com* // @version 1 // @grant none // ==/UserScript== document.getElementById('navSpecialPromoLink').style="display: none !important;"; document.getElementsByClassName('navbar-search-bar')[0].style="width: auto !important;"; Other than the header (the lines starting with //), there's really only two lines of code (JavaScript). The first line hides the sales tag. The second line allows the search box to resize to the proper width. To get an idea whether or not the above would work for you, you could possibly test using a bookmarklet... (1) Create a new bookmark, name it "fixSearch" or whatever. (2) Set the "location" to: javascript:void(document.getElementById('navSpecialPromoLink').style="display: none !important;"); void(document.getElementsByClassName('navbar-search-bar')[0].style="width: auto !important;"); As I'm sure you know, you shouldn't indiscriminately copy and run bookmarklets but this one is so simple, you can probably conclude it to be safe? ---------------------- A different method, if you can apply page styling (CSS), (using "Stylish" or similar) would be to use a couple styling rules like these: #navSpecialPromoLink { display: none !important; } .navbar-search-bar { width: auto !important; } As with the JavaScript, the first line hides the sales tag, the second line allows the search bar to resize automatically. --------------------- I agree though, you shouldn't have to do either, it should just work, no jumping though hoops. Why it's not, I don't know, I'm not a programmer. -------------------- BTW, I don't have a tablet to test with. And squeezing Firefox (on my desktop) down to a width of 300px doesn't cause the search bar to mess up in the same way yours does. In other words, being unable to replicate the problem, I have no way of knowing if any of the above is useful to you or not....See MoreSearch feature???
Comments (20)Searching is not easier but certainly different. Trying different key words, etc. Searching 'hard boiled eggs' did not provide the recent thread, but many others. Searching Plancha brought up the recent grill post even though the thread title was vague. Rather than add to that, if i have time, i will start a new thread having used mine a dozen times since...and i'll use Teppanyaki/Plancha in the title. Anymore i just bookmark what i want to save or take a screenshot of a recipe and print it immediately. Seems many remembered past postings get lost. Ten years ago a great effort was present on forums to try and safely archive information but no longer has that worked at all. Computers crash, photo hosting sites 'explode'. Constant back-ups are annoying. Some go blank off-line overnight. I've lost two and DH just lost his only forum due to the owners passing suddenly. Massive information on that forum. (Luthier...violin and string instrument makers form all over the world). Party_, I've had the same issue, weeks or months later, wanting to add some information and just give up the search....See Morerifis (zone 6b-7a NJ)
