Need help with Backsplash and Floor Selection and Design!
I'll be closing on my new home in 2 weeks and need help. I have cherry java cabinets with fantasy brown countertops and I'll be installing woodville natural wood look tile after closing. Light fixtures will be candlestick transitional/farmhouse style.
(Builder had to install the smaller backsplash because it's a tract home and I am doing the backsplash after I close. So the small backsplash will be removed to install new).
I am considering the tiles below for my backsplash; marble brick and marble diamond mosaic. The home is eclectic. Spanish influence, transitional. I like the diamond look but not sure if it will be too busy or go with the overall style? I was considering using the diamond mosaic only on the cooktop/hood wall and the brick tile everywhere else? Also should I take the tile on the hood wall all the way to ceiling? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you!!!

2 years agoIf you were planning on a tile backsplash then the current 4" backsplash should not have been installed. Stacking one backsplash on top of another is just not the way backsplashes are handled in kitchens.
The warm color of the tile you selected for the backsplash doesn't complement the coolness of your current counters.
Here is your kitchen with the tile floor you have selected. The tile IMO is too light to work in the space you have created.
Here are some alternate selections for the floor.

Comments (6)I don't think I would like a travertine with that color cabinet. The honey tones would wash it out, and the travertine might dull the cabinet color. I think a slate backsplash would work much better. Either in a subway or 4 x 4 tile. It would also add some variation of tone and texture as everything is the same color now. Very quickly done here, just plain subway: Fireclay buttercream color: Fireclay wave - gives you an idea how a darker tile would look: pencil tile with orange grey black It's much easier to work from a picture taken from 'straight on'. His suggestion is to use the diamond only on the back wall, and then leave the granite border under the pass-through and also leave the 4” border on that very awkward wall that separates the kitchen from the dining and living space. That wall contains the panel. I wish it could be removed, but it can’t, sadly. I am not sure how I feel about leaving the granite border under the pass-through and on that left wall.
