I kind of like the first one it is somehow calling to me . I would suggest you get a counter depth fridge when that one fails for sure.

I really like the bold, diamond shape pattern.

I'm not a fan of bold so I'd go for the least bold which would be the third.

I don't like the diamond at all. I feel like it would make me dizzy just looking at it. I really like the small herringbone. Is it marble? I think a marble or a marble look would give texture, but not be too bold & take over the space. Do you plan to remove the 4" stone backsplash that is there now?

@Mark_rachel Yes, we plan to remove the 4” stone backsplash. That is why I am leaning towards the small herringbone, so we can put it under the pass-through (above the sink, on the left side of the photo). If I do the chevron or diamond, they won’t go well under the pass-through because the height is too short to fit the complete design of both of those backsplashes. The small herringbone will fit well under there. My husband is concerned that the small herringbone is too different from the granite to put it under the pass-through though.

You already have a backsplash and it is perfect, simple elegant. Do nothing.

Can you take a picture of the pass through & of your granite?

Number three, but does it go with the color of the cabinets? They look a bit creamy to me.

I am not home at the moment, so these are the best photos I could find. The first one is before the cabinets were updated, and the last one is the closest I have for you to be able to see the granite (it was taken during construction, so please pardon the mess).

I for example dislike chevron as a pattern. which is unfair to chevron but what can I do. and herringbone I like usually, but this one is too small, shiny, and cool-colored, so to me it's not safe as well, it's still pretty bold, and a bit dizzying too, and I prefer another bold)

It's very hard to say, in this case, whether you should play it bold or not. Your kitchen can manage both.

I do like diamond partially because it combines cooler and warmer shades-to me it would matter as would give more flexibility with decorating (I'm warm-shades-inclined)

Is your granite Uba Tuba? I just thought it was black. If it's Uba Tuba I would consider something different.

There are two that I did not include. The one in the left corner, and the other bold one.

I think it might be, mark_rachel, but it looks relatively black in person. Only those informed on design, such as yourself, can truly tell. The variations are visible to the eye, but the green hue isn’t as noticeable. The granite was in place before we moved in. It’s not my first choice, but it’s not in the budget to change it.

Fireclay has some GREAT colors. I would look at something that has a green undertone if you have green in your stone.

I'm afraid your husband has a point lol I think you really need to consider how the tiles will be laid on the section of wall to the right of the pass through. As much as I like the bold diamond pattern (it calls to me too) I'm not sure where you would stop in relation to the cupboards, it also looks like you have a narrow piece of wall between the cupboard and the opening which could be awkward. You've done a lovely job updating, and upgrading the look.

I agree that Fireclay has a huge range of colors, very pretty ones. Some other brands do too. I could look at their tiles all day long. Even when they are seemingly one color-there is this slight variation. One's never bored..it's like watching sky or water a bit..which is a good quality in semi-permanent element that is there to stay

@Millalm yes, he does have a point lol! His suggestion is to use the diamond only on the back wall, and then leave the granite border under the pass-through and also leave the 4” border on that very awkward wall that separates the kitchen from the dining and living space. That wall contains the panel. I wish it could be removed, but it can’t, sadly.

I am not sure how I feel about leaving the granite border under the pass-through and on that left wall. You can tell this has my mind going in circles lol! So many decisions and factors to consider. I appreciate everyone’s feedback. Truly!!

Or just keep it simple & go with a white/cream that matches your stone & cabinets. I would almost be temped to keep the granite backsplash under the pass through & tile the rest. That would mean cutting down the 4" backsplash beyond the pass through, but it's something I would consider....

I agree, but I would put the bold pattern on the one wall and leave the black on the pass through wall alone :)

There is no reason for a back splash to stand out in any way. I would use plain tiles like mark_rachel shows, which is what I did in a former kitchen with granite counters and it looked elegant and classy. Everything else shown looks a bit tortured to me, and for me simple is best in this context.

Out of the ones you posted, the 2nd or 3rd option are the best. However, mark_rachel's options we like a lot better.

So what did you decide ? Bold or neutral and safe ?

I am still undecided, and I’ve added more options to the mix. All of the comments on here have certainly helped me, though! I will keep staring at them over and over before finally deciding. Haha! I’ll be sure to post the finished product. :)
