Professional Style (not the most expensive) Appliances
Comments (14)The rental will be short term (ie a few months at a time) for engineers and other professionals in the oil industry, typically with families. It's a four bedroom townhouse. They pay well but expect a great deal. I have to buy a professional sized built in (ie tall like sub zero) because I don't want to spend the money to remove the brick (and frankly it's really a nice feature). But I'd like to avoid the seven grand I spent our a sub zero for our place. In the long run we may sell the place, but again, in this neighborhood they'll expect to at least look higher end :) I'm not sure I can even get Bertzatolli in Alaska, but I'll do some research. I'm not worried about getting my money back if I can keep to below $15,000 in appliances in the kitchen. I expect the rest of the work will be around $85,000 and want to have a better figure so we can write that into our offer (ie we're low balling because it's in bad shape!) If we do "short term" it would be a minimum of 30 days because we don't want to do the hotel tax thing...and it's against the rules in the associations. But here in Anchorage there's a great need for higher end short term, furnished etc., places. For instance I'm paying $2000 a month for a 1970's duplex in the hood, on a month by month rental because our house is still under construction. So, long story short :) That's why we want to put nicer things in it (we'll be asking between $4000 and $5000 a month in rent in the summer months). You'd expect a lot for that wouldn't you :) Even if you don't use it LOL...See MoreAppliance garage questions
Comments (7)Standard tambour appliance garages are 18" high, as that's the standard space between upper cabinets and base cabinets. Countertop MWs are pretty deep (around 18" or deeper) unless you're talking a teensy one like you'd find in a dorm room, and those are at least 15" deep. There's only so much that can be done with stock cabinetry, and if the cabinet line doesn't even have slide out shelves, it's unlikely that they carry tambour appliance garages or extra depth cabinets. You can find the hardware for the pocket door cabinet, but you'd need a very good and experienced cabinet installer to be able to create what you want when so little pieces are available from your cabinet line. Really, you seem to want so much more than your cabinet line can offer that you might benefit from just accepting the stock builder's grade cabinetry and laminate counters (get a credit for the granite) and then ordering new cabinets from a line that offers exactly what you want from the beginning. Retrofitting cabinetry to the degree you're talking costs a LOT more than getting it the way you want from the beginning....See MoreFrigidaire Professional Appliances vs. Kitchen Aid Appliances
Comments (10)My kitchen had all Frigidaire Gallery Professional appliances. They were installed in 2000, by the house's previous owner. The refrigerator died in 2012 (12 years life), I forget what the problem was but some fluid was pooling under the unit and the repairman said it couldn't be fixed (part not available). The range died this month (16 years) and it will cost $600 to fix the multiple problems, including circuit board, temperature sensors, and LCD display (but the burner that won't self-light cannot be fixed, part NLA). The dishwasher still works, but the door cladding has come off its frame a few times, the springs that lower the door have broken, the lower rack is missing half its wheels, so we'll replace it next year (17 years). I'm not sure if 12-16 years is generally considered a good service life for modern appliances, but I don't think it is acceptable. I replaced the refrigerator with a commercial True T49. We just ordered a new range, an American Range ARROB636. Now I'm shopping for dishwashers. In general, I'm looking for the simplest models with as few electronics as possible....See MoreSliding Backsplash Appliance Garage
