Joycie X Blueberry

RVR is listing the above rose as "in stock", unfortunately with no information nor photos attached. That makes more than a decade now of them having the rose with no information other than occasionally offering it, along with so many others they obtained from Ashdown. Some things never change.

For anyone wanting an INTENSELY well scented, repeat-flowering, healthy rose with an interesting pedigree, please take a look. I raised the seedling MANY years ago in my old Newhall garden. It is a cross between Ralph Moore's Joycie and Dr. Basye's, Basye's Blueberry. With that background, it contains modern mini, modern floribunda, R. Carolina and R. Virginiana. It does have prickles, but it also flowers constantly with large, double, open, dark pink to light red flowers with an INTENSE scent. If you check out the References section on its HMF page, Paul Barden comments, "The fragrance is one of the richest "old rose" scents I have ever encountered. Absolutely intoxicating. I am trying to persuade Kim to get someone to distribute this fine rose." Well, here is your chance! Being an own root plant produced only via cuttings, the plant should have remained free from RMV. If rust is an issue where you are, this can rust late in the year when the foliage is aging as it IS descended from two American species, which use rust to shut down for winter, but that levels out with maturity. The flowers often remind me of the old Heather Austin in color and shape. Paul reported years ago his plant remained about 4' X 4'. I'd expect a bit larger in milder climates and don't worry, pruning it won't hurt it. This plant WANTS to bloom and grow! If you want to try something different, pretty and NICE, this is your opportunity. Here is its HMF page. https://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=2.39745&tab=1
