OK, so lime is out ;) I will look into my pH. Can you tell me how long my soil will take to obtain a stable pH once I mix my current soil with the horse manure/shavings compost? Simplest way to test pH is what? Are there simple soil test kits like you get for testing aquarium pH? I could always add peat at this point now prior to planting the blueberries. I am mixing the beds up next weekend and then planning on planting. I will have 2 beds, each 12 feet long. Thanks.

You state that they prefer acid soil, well require is a better word. Mix in the peat, and pine bark fines sold as soil conditioners are good too.

Blueberries grow very well in the PNW with minimal soil amending. Everything in the Ericaceae grows well here :-) Commercially raised plants do not require the high degree of acidity that wild blueberries prefer. Since you are planting in raised beds and not in the native inground soil, I would include peat moss in the soil mix.

And pretty much ANY type of blueberry grows well here. My nursery sells about 16 different varieties. To maximize harvest time, I recommend selecting early, mid and late season producers, so at last three different types. Duke is an early berry, Bluecrop is a midseason berry, so all you need to add is a late season bush. Pick from Jersey, Legacy, Liberty, Chandler or Darrow.

Bought my 8 berry bushes today, all in 1 gallon pots. 3 Duke (early) 3 blue crop (mid) 2 legacy (late). Other late option was jersey but in a larger pot and twice as much. Now to figure out what to do with them for pruning....posted specific question as separate thread. Thanks for the advice.
