Oh, forgot to mention that tonight when I was working over there, I had an accident. I have paper runners laid down to keep the freshly varnished floors clean (I have 2 more coats to do and don't want them all tracked up). Anyway, as old homes do, there is a huge square hole in the floor of my bedroom where the cold air return is. Yup, you guessed it, I fell right in. The paper was laid over it and I walked right in to it. I busted the duct underneath and had a hard time pulling myself out. Ironically I hurt the leg that didn't go in far worse than the one that did. The one that fell through got all cut up from the duct but the other one took the force of the fall on the wood floor and my ankle is twisted and my knee is black. I really love this house because you know what, I don't care. :) It's all good. In a couple weeks I can rest my weary broken body in my new home!!! The accident, however, does prevent me from going to the decorating store tommorow and finding inspiration for everything. I'll probably spend half the day with ice on the knee and the other half hobbling around talking to my friend who is coming to take measurements to move the toilet over for me.

Looking at the first photo in your post I would agree that a dark mocha color would be better for the walls. The walls look pale and pinkish, and does not enhance the beauty of the space. There is a lot of tile in there and not much of painted walls. A designer trick would be to paint the wall space a dark color and then tiles them seem light and bright and alive, and make the room seem larger. But I think I see where your DH is coming from with this. The little toilet area is small and does not have a window. If the little toilet area is painted all dark it would seem cramped in there. You don't want to paint a medium tone because then it would match the tiles and make it an 'all the same blah'. You need contrast. I think what the room needs is a warmer richer color like something in a greyed out yellow. A color that is rich and saturated, and will brighten. Something to set off the beautiful tiles and make them sing. I would paint the whole big wall with the window the rich deep yellow and in the toilet area paint the two other small walls the same color but two tones lighter. The toilet area will seem more spacious with two of the walls a bit lighter as it sort of 'breaks it up' and won't seem like a little cave. You would not see the two lighter walls from any where else in the bathroom, only if you were in the toilet area. Its a very pretty bathroom. I like how the lighting for the sinks was done. I've never seen lighting installed that way.

I thought about using a large round mirror but my electrical had to go where it is to be centered and the round mirror would have been too big to fit in between the lights. sheesharee- I am wondering if 2 smaller ones would look okay? I would end up with 4 handles-not too dresser looking? juddgirl2- the 12" centers are gone. The longest the have are 8". If you want to keep it really simple, consider going with the hotel model. Most hotels, regardless of decor, use white towels, etc. Definitely rule of thumb for spas, as well. You do not have to ’match‘ the black in the apartment, but if you would like to pay homage to the black trim and detail, which is very nice by the way, you could of course still use black in rugs and other accessories. As one idea, I think something like this could be elegant. As far as bolder colors, etc.: You would need to be able to see the space as a neutral backdrop - which it essentially is - and you then bring in the other color(s) as accent(s). Since I personally see the space and it’s connection color-wise to the shore nature palette, I would probably choose to accent with colors like the light blues and or gold and or coral/pink - along those lines. Below, as one example: You notice the gold wall + pink and blue incorporated into towel arrangement. So for example, you could mix it up and do gold towels with the black rug, or gold and white, or gold and light blue, etc., etc. the sky is the limit. And it goes beyond shore type color palette; it really depends on what you see and what you like. I just think the shore palette works well with the color scheme and elements in your space, and I tend to defer to nature in many of my design considerations. But outside of that box, there are any number of ways you could go. A deep plum/eggplant color could be striking, for example. There are really many possibilities. Hope some of this is helpful.
