I agree with you and think you could go a bit darker, but it really looks great as it is. I love the pattern you did behind the sinks and the glass tile is so pretty.

Looking at the first photo in your post I would agree that a dark mocha color would be better for the walls. The walls look pale and pinkish, and does not enhance the beauty of the space. There is a lot of tile in there and not much of painted walls. A designer trick would be to paint the wall space a dark color and then tiles them seem light and bright and alive, and make the room seem larger.

But I think I see where your DH is coming from with this. The little toilet area is small and does not have a window. If the little toilet area is painted all dark it would seem cramped in there.

You don't want to paint a medium tone because then it would match the tiles and make it an 'all the same blah'.

You need contrast. I think what the room needs is a warmer richer color like something in a greyed out yellow. A color that is rich and saturated, and will brighten. Something to set off the beautiful tiles and make them sing.

I would paint the whole big wall with the window the rich deep yellow and in the toilet area paint the two other small walls the same color but two tones lighter. The toilet area will seem more spacious with two of the walls a bit lighter as it sort of 'breaks it up' and won't seem like a little cave. You would not see the two lighter walls from any where else in the bathroom, only if you were in the toilet area.

Its a very pretty bathroom. I like how the lighting for the sinks was done. I've never seen lighting installed that way.

It is hard to tell which wall is the toilet wall but since I love dark rich colours I would paint the wall that has the dark towel on it that depth of brown. It would bring out the floor and the mirror and vanity. With the white fixtures, the room will actually look bigger. The dark walls will look farther away.
BTW I love your tile and your bathroom looks wonderful just the way it is right now.

Behr has a beautiful color called Spanish Chestnut and it is really beautiful and I think will play nicely off of your art work above the toilet.

I would go with a darker, warmer color. How dark depends on your comfort zone! :)
I've included 2 pics for visual. One is DS's bathroom that we remodeled and you can see how the travertine shows much better against the wall color. The second pic is from a home tour but it shows how a slightly darker color than what you have can add some contrast.

It appears you don't have a lot of wall space so I wouldn't be concerned about going darker. I worried about a charcoal gray DIL put in a small bath but it ended up making the room!

Mistybear, You have to click on the link that yadax3 provided. The link is below the photo in the post. It goes to a slideshow and shows the little toilet area behind the shower wall. It also shows black shuttered windows in the bathroom which would make chocolate walls seem dark, unless the shutters are changed to white....which would mean the framed mirrors would have to be white then......and then the table would need to be switched out and then are the towels going to be OK?....and then and then........LOL. It's the domino effect. Viewing the whole room allows one to mull over all the obstacles to changing the wall color.

Thanks dilly_dally, I see the window now. However I think it would work to an advantage. With the shutter being black, it would blend right in as if there wasn't a window there at all. The only thing you would have to change was the order of the towels. If the trim was light, I would say it wouldn't work. Is that the view that you see when looking in from the door? (If it is I would do it. That would be the only wall I would paint that colour). If not then I don't see it working either. Never mind me, I am just hung up on dark colour. lol..

Thanks so much for all of your great responses. It never occurred to me to paint different colors on different walls but it's an interesting idea. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me sort this out. I never expected to get so hung up on the paint color.

Here's a link to the colors I have now. The walls are Bay Harbor Beige (1032) and the ceiling is Brandy Cream (1030). Do you think I should stay with the same color strip or go to completely different hues? The idea of yellow-grey sounds kind of exciting but I don't know what to look for. Do you have any specific suggestions? I have a 2-year-old BM fan deck for reference.

Some of my confusion stems from the fact the wall and floor tiles are very different and the paint I have now definitely matches the floor tile (which has pink and yellow tones) better than the wall tile, which is supposed to be 'sand' but has kind of a taupe hue.

What if you go to the next color strip to the right, which seems to be less pink. I was looking at Stone House (1039) or Spice Gold (1040). I absolutely love your floor, BTW. I know a couple of people on here have a similar floor in white, but I'm not good at keeping my white floor clean, so I've been wanting something that wasn't so hard to keep looking good. Do you remember who makes it?

I'm also wondering about Lenox Tan or Brookline Beige. They look like they have some pink undertones, but they're darker than what you currently have.
