Any way to make a gray paint look less-blue?
Comments (15)Thanks all! I did go back to the store and have them mess with the color a bit. I think I'm going to like the new color better (I did a quick test splotch) but I don't think I'm going to have enough for a full second coat. I'm actually using this in 2 different rooms so I'll probably use what I have left in one room and figure something out for the other. Sorry it took me so long to respond -- gardenweb was giving me guff when I tried to log in....See MoreIKEA cabinet - how can I make it look less like Ikea?
Comments (22)Not knowing the sq. footage of your space, it's hard to push you in that direction... my tile is just those three walls (can't see the the third) - as the sink is set into that space and stands alone. I think all said and done it was $400 for tile and labor - but the guy just came in to do this job. You'll be bidding out for more tile than just this.... so labor wise, it probably won't add much to your overall labor cost. I purchased at a local tile store - but was just in Lowes last night and they have some really pretty glass accents (like the one I used) -- if that's your thing. It just added a little extra interest. The wall where my towel holder is (to the left of the sink) was just full of water drip stains. You can't get them out. It was either re-paint every couple years or tile. As for your sink choice - I truly believe it comes down to the look you want to achieve. The all white cabinet, with white subway tiles and accent tiles would look pretty awesome. I can't imagine that the fiberboard is any less durable than the pine.......See MoreHow to match or make a couch look less green
Comments (4)I need a quick 101 on undertones to find a paint color that will work. One of the many problems with thinking about color in terms of undertones is the only thing you can do is subjectively "match" colors. The theory that you can color by undertones provides zero methodology for solving any kind of color conundrum past "matching" according to subjective undertones and/or not combining alleged undertones in unsavory combinations, like pink and yellow. So, while a lot of people talk a lot about undertones, no one discusses any sort of framework about how you're actually suppose to use them to solve complex color dilemmas like yours. Color Rule #1 is change the light and you change how the color looks. Color is light. Color and light are inextricably tied. Before you move on to choosing paint colors, you first need to assess the lighting situation. Neodymium (like Reveal), halogon and LED could all contribute to exaggerating the greeness of the sofa. Incandescents could help the sofa look more "yellowy beige". I would try changing light bulbs first and then move on to what can be done with wall color to help shift the sofa color more towards yellow and away from green....See MoreHow to make dining room look less farmhouse?
Comments (16)Thanks for all of your suggestions everyone! We recently bought this apartment, fully furnished, and haven’t moved in yet. We will be replacing all of the furniture over time. We didn’t plan on replacing any yet, but the current dining table is a glass top, and with two small children it isn’t practical. I still feel that the West Elm Anderson table is too bulky for the space so we decided to go with the modern table, and midcentury chairs. We will be getting counter stools to match the chairs as well. I think this table and chair combo fits the space significantly better. I will post final photos once everything is delivered. Thanks again!...See MoreHU-187528210
