How do I add my farmhouse love to this existing look?
Comments (11)You can get more of your look but it will be easier if you embrace your love of blue and white and think less of gray:) On the plus side, newer design pics show lots of white, warm woods and less gray. I admit my least favorite thing about the kitchen is the paneled fridge followed closely by the over the range microwave which I could not even reach:) Actually, The first thing I would do is nothing since this is a new to you home. Then you can assess what really is bothering you, and your husband may relent on some changes, and you may have a better idea of a budget. In my own kitchen I did change the counters, subway tile backsplash and short apron Kohler Whitehaven farm sink. It is more vintage / cottage then farmhouse: https://www.houzz.com/hznb/photos/my-pics-work-in-progress-phvw-vp~110720042 https://www.houzz.com/hznb/photos/my-pics-work-in-progress-phvw-vp~109854029 If I had your kitchen some things I would think about: Compromise with the husband - Keep wood cabinets and get new counter - maybe you will need to save up and do it in a year or so, but it is a pretty, functional kitchen so waiting is not a problem. If I had lots of storage, I might want to remove some of the cabinets on the window wall and put in a larger window or replace the cabinet to the right of the sink with shelves or a plate rail cabinet. I admit mine is more for decor then use - but I love the look. A carpenter can rework that cabinet into a plate rail cabinet. That is not cheap but if I could do that in my kitchen I would, but it is too small. I would look into whether or not ordinary doors are available for the fridge. I would replace the OTR Microwave with a vented hood. I would put up a pretty roman shade. Here is my wood kitchens idea book. Maybe something will inspire. Some are new, others are older, refreshed kitchens: https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/75202366/list/wood-kitchens...See MoreSectional Mistake / Designing an Old Farmhouse Living Room
Comments (9)Scary with no banister on your stairs. I see a hand rail. Is that sufficient? IMO the ladder should be on the wall with the art work on it (beside the dining room) Put the TV to the left...more in the middle of the wall. Take away the end table beside it...Add a floor lamp in the corner behind your sectional and a lamp on the end table. Sheer curtains will soften your room. Is one of the end tables .. the one by the TV....low enough to be used for a coffee table? If too high, maybe look for a small ottoman or small table or stool to use, if you think you have room for it....See MoreHow should I decorate living room corner. I I’ve modern farmhouse
Comments (10)I finally gave up on the trendy indoor plants because I have dry winter air. Your spot is like mine with plenty of light. I got a nice citrus plant from Home Depot at a reasonable price. Mine is Midknight Valencia Orange. It has bloomed each year in the past 3 with that lovely orange blossom scent. No fruit, not enough sun for that. However, it is a very happy plant. It has large glossy dark green leaves. Better performance than many of the "houseplants" I have killed in the past....See MoreHelp with 1907 farmhouse dining room
Comments (3)Reconsider your space…how could it be more multifunctional for your daily life? Some ideas…library/dining/work/creative/gathering space. That will guide your furnishings/layout. Painting or white washing the wood walls would freshen/brighten the space and coordinate with the adjacent rooms. Is there wood flooring under the tile in the old kitchen? Sand/finish the wood floors. Edit the smalls to be more intentional and functional with a small group of items that have something in common…color, shape, texture. Paint the furniture a color that coordinates or pops against the light walls. Bring in some interesting lighting that relates to the furnishings....See MoreD Kats
