in search of corner bench that looks like ikea hack but is not?
Comments (8)It of course increases the cost but you can probably hire a handyman to assemble the Ikea Expedit. Also, the store has a list of companies that can do this as well - if I remember correctly, online, you can order much of their furniture, pay to have it delivered ($99 for my zip code) and you can add to the order, the task of assembling. The contractor doing our bathroom which was totally gutted with all new tile/countertop/etc. included "hacking" Ikea Godmorgen cabinets as part of the job. He agreed to make something a bit different which I had drawn a picture of for him as a guide. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. I can't say the end result was "cheap" but it certainly was something that I could never have purchased without this help....See MoreCan I cut down my Ikea wall cabinets so they are only 12" deep?
Comments (37)Akimbo, those 8" cabinets are awesome! I am currently looking into installing an IKEA tall cabinet into my hallway linen closet to make it look like a built-in. We did a custom wardrobe in our old house with IKEA cabinets that turned out great. I love that IKEA's cabinets are so easy to modify (even though they have done everything to discourage it). The 2nd and third photos are the Kitchen we were working on when I asked you about the upper cabinet depth/microwave issue. We ended up using a spacer behind the microwave....See MoreCan I put granite on top of the kitchen island made of ikea cabinets?
Comments (26)In most production cabinets, the back is nothing more than to close the cabinet box. A hanging rail is what will support and hold the cabinet to the wall. Perfect example is of Joe's picture, where you see the solid wood at the back of the cabinet, that he's screwed to the plywood. That cabinet doesn't have a back, just a hanging rail, and it's obviously not going anywhere. Now, whenever I do an island, I always try to use at least a 1/2" plywood panel across the back of the cabinets, then a finish panel or wainscoting. I don't do a whole lot of frameless cabinets, but I do the same on them. This adds to the rigidity of the cabinet boxes, as well as giving the finish panel something to nail onto, anywhere I want to attach it. Plus, people won't put their foot through the panel. It also makes it easy to attach corbels. If you have the room, build a knee wall behind the cabinets. Now you can attach the cabinets to a wall. Then either drywall and paint, or use finish panels to cover the knee wall....See MoreHow can I make the exterior look less dated? Pls help!!!
Comments (38)Another beautiful house that fell into the gray trap. Get rid of the gray and the house will be fine. Choose one of the colors out of the bigger color scheme of littlebug. The white is too white too. A tone of light beige will accommodate the walls to the brick. A truly dark red or dark green might be nice accent colors, but don't overdo it. Maybe just the door and the swing (which can stay in my opinion, but the pillows are too modern). Besides that: do people not build and buy such houses for the 'dated' look? It is supposed to look like from another era. So do not update, but preserve the look. The rest of the house is beautiful as it is. It doesn't have to be all Tudor style, per se. Have you seen the movie 'pride or prejudice'. That house also has such a wooden railing. In my opinion your door and windows look beautiful too. Some agents of styles tend to become to stringent. So: paint will do a marvelous job on an already lovely house....See Morebbstx
