Well, thanks for all the help. DH did reschedule floor refinishing for next Friday since we weren't 100% ready. awm, yes, we painted the room recently. I like the color though next time (in 5-10 years?) I will go with a lighter color. I picked it because it's in our rug. Yes, bookcases will go along non-window wall, not sure which one yet. robin, though I didn't see your post, I did end up ordering a leather sofa, loveseat, chair, and a lamp from overstock.com. It all came out to about $2000 and I am keeping my fingers crossed that the quality will be OK. We are on a pretty tight budget but I am hoping the LR set will last at least 10 years. Can't wait to get it. It's dark brown. I spent three days researching sofas and almost all brands have mixed reviews, so I decided to just go for something I visually like ... hope it's comfy, too. I'll post photos as we make progress. Our LR has been empty for so long, I can't wait to use it again.

Oh. Like magic. :o) For sanitary reasons, I’m not sure what you could put there. How about a couple of floating shelves on the wall up above? If you don’t need the storage/display space, I still think just an art print would do it. It is a bit of an awkward spot but its location right next to the toilet kind of gives it an ick factor. Sorry I’m not more help.

The dining set looks cute to me. If you are planning to keep the navy couch, what about having the chairs painted white and do them with navy fabric? Maybe paint the base of the table, but leave the top as is. I would paint the chandy white. White will go with style of it. Perhaps chalk paint or chalky paint spray. I sometimes use a flat white primer as it is not shiny. Do you have any antique malls nearby? If so, perhaps go find a buffet. Put a big mirror over the buffet and a pair of cute lamps, one on each end. If the budget allows, a colorful area rug. The room should be looking better than presentable. :) (If you do pull up the carpet, you may want to replace the baseboards with some wider base because what is there looks too small.)

Well, I was going to suggest the ubiquitous fiddle leaf fern, but looks like you have a cat, and they are toxic to cats. You might Google plants that are non-toxic to cats and see if anything grabs your interest. I think some palms may be ok with cats (and they can grow fairly large), or you might look for a contemporary plant stand and just sit a smaller plant on it -- maybe a giant tropical bromeliad or something along those lines. That said, if your cat is prone to pester plants, it's probably not a good idea to include one in your décor. (Definitely don't put a fake plant in this pretty space.)
