Paint Design Dilemma Bedroom

Master bedroom and bathroom paint color help

Our current wall paint is a greenish greige color and our trim is BM White Dove. The bedroom is smalll and northwest facing with indirect light. The bathroom is northeast facing and gets better light. We're having a really hard time deciding what to do! I find the existing color a little too dingy although it works with our grayish green headboard and sand colored duvet cover (however, I'd be more than happy to switch to white if it worked better with our new paint color. My husband doesn't want to go dark. I've been thinking something in the green/gray/blue/greige family for the bedroom and we could do the same or something different in the bathroom (and that could be darker). We've already bought 4 samples (Gray Owl, Pale Oak, Swiss Coffee, Classic Gray). None of them seem quite right. Horizon Gray? Balboa Mist? Too dark? Too dingy? Maybe we shouldn't go gray at all? Would love any ideas!

Try a very light shade of aqua. Not a muddy toned one, but, a nice clear color. It can be white with a hint of aqua. There are man very light shades to pick from. Anything with a muddy look to it, will not work any better in your room. You need a clear light refreshing look to take away the dingy look of both the bedroom and bathroom paint.

Before you make this move, upgrade your light to 3500-4000K LEDs. That should put the whole thing in a better light (pun intended.) Paint is the last item selected in a decorating project. Fabrics and textiles come first because paint can be tinted to work with them. I think you need to find bedding that does something for your room. That duvet cover looks to have seen better days. Once the bedding and a rug to go under the bed are chosen, and lighting is upgraded, you'll be able to find the perfect paint color. You can get peel and stick samples at samplize.com once you've narrowed it down to two or three colors. What are you planning for the windows?

You are going to want more than 32" for the toilet. 36" is standard (and perhaps even code in some areas???? Not here in Maine but I heard people saying that on other forums...) We have 34" and it feels fine but I dont think I'd want to go much tighter. You could solve that simply by flipping the closet and shower. So, have your shower -rotated 90 degrees and witha glass end wall- at the end of the tub (which is a nice setup you can see in many bathrooms, the tub deck can actually protrude under the shower glass wall and be a ledge or seat in the shower). Then the passageway moves to the left, and you can steal a bit of space from the other closet for the toilet. Either that of have a shorter vanity. 48" isn't a size I'd fight for. It's too short for a double vanity, really (unless you're using one of the new two-faucet 'trough" styles) so why not go down to 42" and have a better toilet area? For resale, though, you should consider a double vanity. Some people I guess expert truly huge ones, like at least 5+' long. But you CAN get smaller ones, Ikea has some great ones for tight spaces. But if you're not selling anytime soon, do what YOU like!! (But I still think you'll want more toilet space...)

How luck you'd be if your tile was that nice soft tone of pink but often 1950's pink tile is much more bold or pinky beige and usually there is a whole mess of it. Here is a link to pink baths on Pinterest, some with the 1950's pink tile. Maybe you'll see something that inspires you. Maybe post a pic of your bath and tile? This may be a softer pink than your tile, but they really embraced it - I don't think it's tile, but you could carry the pink up the wall and onto the ceiling even, like this: or this with dark gray walls Maybe look for some really bold wallpaper that will take dominance over the tile... Thank you so much Cherri for you sweet compliments! I wish you the best finding the perfect paint for your house....I played it safe also when building 6 yrs. ago and went with Ivorie thru out the downstairs public rooms and bedroom bath. Later changed the DR to restrained gold and the bedroom to mannered gold. then just this past Oct. changed the LR to raspberry red. I think you get more comfortable in your home the longer you are there and are willing to take more risks. Now I wish I had painted Mannered gold in the FR which is a 22 ft. ceiling room...ha! The Ivorie is staying for now until DH decides to hire a painter....LOL! But go for it if you are building....once blinds are up, furniture is in , pictures and art are hung.....the paint colors tone down. I especially love the mannered gold. It made the tones in our bedroom furniture seem much richer. I left the bathroom Ivorie since gold isn't my color in clothing shades and was afraid it might make us look sallow or jaundiced in the bathroom. We had thought of wallpapering it buy life gets in the way sometimes and projects get put on hold. But the deeper shades on that paint strip, restrained gold & mannered gold are very pretty colors. I like my first idea best as far as use of space. I know people say not to put toilets on an outside wall. We had one in our last house in Iowa, but we had 2X6 construction. I don't know how high your window is, but I'm guessing the toilet would fit under there. The shower would be 5 feet long or shorter if you want a wider space to get to the toilet. (kind of tight the way I have drawn). You could do a 5 and half foot long shower and do an angled door at the left end to allow room between the shower and toilet. The vanity would be about 7 feet long, unless you do a 60 inch vanity with a linen cabinet at the door. I would reverse entry door swing if you do that.. The second top right could work and you would still have a small closet. The bottom left plan would require waterproofing your front window. Hopefully someone will give you other ideas. The bottom right plan is bigger, but no closet. Each square equals 1 foot.

Thank you for the advice on the lights. That's actually a fairly new, high quality linen duvet cover. It looks better in real life and with the rest of our bedding, but I agree that the color is not doing anything for the room. I'd like to go back to all white bedding.

Yes, we need a rug and we want to replace the dark wood nightstands, and yeah, we need to do something about the window dressings. Open to suggestions on all of that as well as the paint. Thanks for the rug size guide! That's really helpful, I've never understood all the rules about rugs and furniture.

I would not go with gay at all. Gray is out of style. I would go lighter with Gray Mist BM.
