Basement Floor Advice - Help!

E B

Recently purchased home which came with a carpeted basement. This room is fairly large, has one or two steps doing down into it and is a walk-out with two windows. Goal is to convert it to a play room for young kids / recreation room. Here's the issue - there is a sump pump just sitting in the corner of the room on the floor. It's roughly where the yellow chair is in this pic (pic from listing, not my stuff). There's no way to build a closet or container around the sump pump because of other equipment and the window. We're thinking of whatever flooring we use, we'll make a "trap door" of sorts we could just lift off to access pump.

So what flooring should we use? We're torn between LVP / LVT and ceramic or porcelain tile. The cost difference between LVT and real tile is HUGE! But we're very concerned about water damage. FWIW, the carpet that is there does not appear to be water damaged, so clearly it survived.

TL;DR: Large basement area we need to convert to play room / high traffic rec room - has sump pump in the corner on the floor. Do we use LVP / LVT or ceramic or porcelain tile?
