I think that the last episodes that I saw were from 2018, when Mary Berry was still on, along with the blonde and brunette assistants. I don't know whether these two were kept, but I did like them.

I had been watching it on PBS, and since I do not have (or want) Netflix, I won't be able to watch the new series.

Thank you so much Mtn. I'll pass your tips along to my DDIL who fell in love with my mini loaf pan and 'borrowed' it. She thought it was so clever that each loaf had a different design on top. She's on the board of a local animal rescue and volunteered to host the next meeting. I think it might be prudent to purchase another pan for myself. lol She is a very creative and enthusiastic individual and immediately said she was going to use 2 colors of icing, white for a base and then she would add a light yellow tint to highlight the lemons on top. Interesting that your icing hid the relief. I went back to look at the post where you linked the W.S. pans and the lemons show fairly well. It appears they used a really thin icing on the lemons and then a thicker one around them and to drizzle over the side. I wouldn't dream of making them without icing! Ah clever Mtn! - you found white and yellow striped ribbon! Perfect

"I had always heard that the British are awful cooks." A rather common misconception :-) There are just as many great British chefs/cooks as there are anywhere else. And traditional British foods are delicious when correctly prepared. My only complaint is that there is a tendency to overcook the veggies. But I think even that is less of an issue now. I think part of the reputation for British food being bad is that rationing during WWII and after was severe and lasted a long time - well into the 50's - and the Brits were forced to make do with minimal ingredients and tough cuts of meat. And overcooking was maybe a way to deal with that. But my travels there have produced some absolutely wonderful meals. Pub lunches and meals are some of the best!! My parents were British and I grew up with this style of cooking. Mom baked but not a lot and she never got as creative as the bakers on the show get. She would make steamed or sticky puddings (which I loved as a kid but seriously sweet!!), always plum pudding and Christmas cake (fruit cake but not at all like you encounter here in the US - very boozy!), trifles, mince tarts and sponges and jelly rolls. I have learned how to make all of these as well but do so seldom now that the kid is grown and gone and I am single. Still do a trifle for family Christmas dinner and mince tarts but that's about it. Now and again I make a Pavlova for a summer dessert.

Houzz.com That is the only way I can access the forums. If I try to go to Garden Web, it flips over to Houzz. ****** On my ipad I can’t get to any forums on Houzz—-I only see pictures and shopping. I have to go to Gardenweb to get to forums, then I see Houzz stuff on the side. Have no idea what “best answer” is I don’t even see it.

Again, there are different things called fairy cakes from different places. Real American cupcakes aren't so big. The ones sold by specialty bakeries are like four times the size of a normal cupcake. The mountains of frosting do seem to have spread from them, however. People like the pointy top, whereas flat frosting or icing used to be the norm. But then we were all appalled at what The Great British Bake-Off called ”American” pies. unrecognizable. Like the ”Australian” friands, or any number of things here called ”French”, which may have originated from a French concept, but are nothing like one might find in France. I know what real petits fours are like, but there's an old time American treat that was called petits fours, which seem to have disappeared. I think they were called that because they were small cakes and the French name made them sound fancy. Accurate name or not, they were really good! Each was about an inch cube, with a smooth hard-ish coating on top and sides of chocolate, or sometimes colors. I don't know if those were colored white chocolate or something else. I'm guessing it was a poured glaze that firmed up kind of idea. There would always be a tiny decoration in the middle, in two or three colors. Commonly, a little flower or bird, or for special occasions, something thematic like baby booties or candy canes. Inside were four layers of cake. Yes, 1/8” thick cake. In between the cake layers was usually jam, but could be cream or something else. Jam was the best. A lot of what's popular now from bakeries isn't nearly as good, like those giant cupcakes with multiple discordant flavors in the batter, a big dollop of contrasting goo in a pocket in the center, and mounds of frosting and toppings. The tent people?---i think i caught a few episodes. OK-ish....but that TaskMaster series i binged at one point months ago....hilarious.

“Assistants”? I don't think the presenters, both very well known comedians here, would be too happy with that description. The programme was moved by the production company from the BBC to a different station in 2017 and the presenters, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, resigned on principal. It wasn’t a matter of them being ’kept’. Mary Berry also left the show for the same reason.

The ones that replaced them are much funnier! Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas. I miss Sandy Toksvig, though.

Haven't watched the show since they all left. Didn't care for the personalities that replaced Mary, Mel and Sue.... especially Mary.

Their comedic talents are not so much apparent on this peticular venue. They are well known celebrity comedians..Not US so much. Neil is dry but hilarious if you are familiar with his 'style' or most of them,--- it is a different experience...if familiar and know their backgrounds. No different than any comedic performance---see then once is odd, maybe uncomfortable---three times makes sense....

Love the few programs shown on PBS. I like Mel and Sue, I think I had assumed they were comedians, they don't seem to be bakers. Have not seen the newer programs without Mary, Mel and Sue, but not sure it will be as good for
