Gummed up brooms and vacuum brushes
Comments (2)I love my Miele cannister for hardwood and tile. I use a central vac now, but to me, cannisters are the best for anything that isn't wall to wall. I also second the idea of ditching the shoes. We've been doing that for years. I don't do it to 'guests', but if you live here, shoes are something you put on when you leave and take off when you return....See MoreChrome or Brushed Nickel - Which finish holds up the best?
Comments (6)At the 10 year mark it's possible that brushed nickel will be horribly dated like brass (I don't mind dated finishes but some folks sure do). Chrome really is durable. Unbeatably so. Look at old Buicks! I do have some 80 year old nickel faucets (hot and cold) that look a bit weathered but the nickel is still good. Of course, it started off shiny and is probably not what they are currently using for "nickel". I think for nickel, you need to compare specific manufacturers--the colors of the finish vary and the composition must as well. I had brushed nickel hardware (door handles and cabinet pulls) installed my the PO in my last house and after less than 5 years, the more used ones were worn smooth. I didn't mind, but you could sure see which cabinet had the good towels and which one had the cleaning supplies (insert blushing face here). For durability (and for not being in fashion enough to go out of fashion), I think chrome is the way to go unless you dislike it....See Morecalgal - trim and brushing putty follow-up
Comments (2)Gldnfan, Thank you for the feedback on the brushing putty. Though IÂm sorry to hear that it did work to give you the finish you were looking for, itÂs good to know its limitations as a primer/filler on the fuse lines on trim. We just purchased a newly constructed home in Southern California; despite the high purchase price, they donÂt include window or doorway millwork and they install narrow baseboardsÂwide baseboards were not even a builder option. In truth, the design of the windows is such that trim will not enhance their look. Having lived on the east coast for the past decade, IÂm quite fond of millwork. So we plan to add some crown molding in some of the rooms and change the narrow baseboards throughout the house. So I was very interested in how the brushing putty worked as filler on the fuse line on your trim. Thank you for the follow up. The strict zoning sounds like my hometown of San Francisco now that we live in Southern CaliforniaÂI miss my City by the BayÂstrict zoning and all! SF and the Bay Area have a variety of beautiful architecture: Edwardian, Victorian, Modern, and Art Deco. You can see homes and buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Bernard Maybeck, Moore and Turnbull, and Julia Morgan. In Orange County a particular development company shaped the look of the county. We call the area Trumanville, after the movie The Truman Show. I kid you not; their concept of the suburban American Dream was literally conceived and implemented into a master plan by this particular development company and it ainÂt pretty. There are no spontaneously developed communities in the southern part of this countyÂitÂs all part of their master plan. All the communities look the same--itÂs like living in an endless suburban wasteland. Every tree is planted; every house plotted, planned, and approved; nothing is out of the ordinary. Nothing is even remotely unique and beautiful like your clay/plaster walls and cherry door. If in a moment of obsession/compulsion you focus in on the trim, just remember I live in Trumanville:)...See MoreMake up brush cleaning...
Comments (11)I used cetaphil for years - upon the recommendation of my dermatologist. Just recently changed to CeraVe because my skin is drier. May need to switch back to cetaphil for warm weather. I always use witch-hazel toner after cleansing, and I can attest that the cetaphil leaves little residue. However, it is a mild cleanser and you can get alot of makeup built up on sponges/in brushes. On my brushes/sponges, I use soap and water or shampoo....See MoreOlychick
